Blade Pro 17 - RX09-039, Unusable due to charging issues | Razer Insider
Skip to main content

Hello,

I am, like many others also report on the forums, have been experiencing issues with charging my Razer Blade Pro 17 (Early 2020) - RZ09-0329 laptop, specifically while the laptop is under load.

The laptop will switch between charging/battery mode, even though the charger is plugged in. The switching between charging/battery does not stop and repeats every 2-3 seconds. While this happens, huge performance drops occur, making the laptop unusable.

The issue happens when the laptop is under load, for example while playing (most) games, but most importantly also while running more intense programs like Unity3D (Game engine) which I use daily for my work, and that’s the reason why I bought such an expensive laptop in the first place.

The laptop is not damaged, never suffered an injury and never received a repair for anything, on top of that the laptop is cleaned regularly.

Every driver including BIOS drivers are up-to-date.

I have done the following things in attempt to fix the issue:

  • The charger has been checked with a voltmeter and seems 100% fine
  • Windows 10 re-install + All drivers and Razer software
  • Re-installed Battery/Charger drivers
  • Cleared CMOS
  • Contacted Razer support with the issue, and tried their following troubleshooting steps:
    • Re-install battery and ACPI-Compliant drivers
    • Charged laptop to full, and let it drain while no charger is connected (2x)
  • Used both Throttlestop and Batteryinfoview programs to attempt and debug the issues from which I got the following information
    • The Battery discharge rate keeps getting throttled
    • There are hardware level bottlenecks applied as a result of the charging issue, which seems to be the cause of the performance drops
  • Create and look at battery health report from windows (Which indicates no apparent issues)

The only thing I couldn’t do is downgrade to older Synapse versions, because I failed to find any trustworthy source to find these.

I hope this post comes with a response from Razer, because I am obviously not the only one having these kind of issues in the past few months. It would be a shame if it never gets fixed because aside from this, it has been a great laptop with amazing power capable as a portable powerhouse for VR game development, now it can struggle with a youtube video.

If anyone else has managed to fix this issue on their end, any help would be greatly appreciated!

(edit) The model number in the title is wrong, the correct number is: RZ09-0329

For anyone else stumbling upon this thread, I managed to fix the problem on my end.

The charger cable teared open underneath the braiding, I only noticed it because tension was built up, twisting the braiding on the cable, after which I removed the braiding of the cable to find out that electric wires were exposed outside of it's rubber enclosure.

A new replacement charger fixed the problems so far.

reply back if the issue reoccurs again cause I have the same problem but I'm sure it’s not the charger
