Hey guys, has anyone run into the BSoD - VIDEO_TDR_FAILURE (nvlddmkm.sys)? I did some reading and it seems to be a common issue with Nvidia drivers on Windows 10.

Yes, I've got the same issue BSOD twice today. Removed the latest nvidia driver 430.64 and installed the one from the Windows Update (which is very old 417.71, but seems to be more stable). I'm on Windows 10 1903 (latest May big update).

I'm running Razer Blade 15 Advanced Mid 2019 with 2070. Also Razer still doesn't have any working drivers published for this model on the official site. Contacted support, they said it's work in progress (current downloads are 300-500kb and will not run).

Full crash dump analysis: https://pastebin.com/raw/Pqsg56K2 .

With the current stable drivers version I have a different issue. Display sometimes doesn't turn on after sleep. Laptop wakes up, shows the screen and then it becomes black. I have to make it sleep and wake again to get it working (UPDATE: FN+F4 seems to help as well).

Also Chrome crashes because of the precision scrolling bug when you scroll with 2 fingers, reported here.

I never had a laptop with so many issues from the start.

Did you try dch drivers? Apparently windows 1903 push users to use it if you’ve 1903, I’m not quite sure if it’s related with your issue but usually bsod is driver related things. Try manually download recent drivers and choose dch version beside standard. Yeah I hate update because sometimes it comes not always with improvement but also bugs, especially gpu drivers.

I'll give it a try. I installed via GeForce Experience previously.

Windows update also installs the older version of Intel video driver and there is an update suggested by the Intel Graphics Command Center. If you try to install it, it fails with the message that this driver version was not approved by the vendor. I've forced the install by unpacking the installer and updating the driver via the Device Manager, but the new Intel driver also has issues like the display not turning on after sleep. I found that the older version from the Windows Update works the best.

Yes I’m agree with intel driver one I’ve also issue updating it, forgot on stealth or Blade 15 though, popping up that fails massage but didn’t try further since older iGPU driver is still fine. Nvidia drivers as well last time update was because I wanted to try Ray Tracing on gtx card, if there’s no that feature I would stay with old one. In the past i had some issues by always updating newest one like in gaming crash or games doesn’t load on reading scenes. This’s also why I avoid updating windows at early stage. Seeing first if there’s another issues come with it. Reinstalling and searching drivers is quite wasting time imo. I would be happy if there’s some folder for newer and most optimized drivers on Razer Blade support page beside Original Factory driver one, that’s tested and recommended for that specific model.
Can anyone with the new 240hz screen check Synapse for available refresh rates on the panel please?

Reason: 1. The Razer Raptor is going to be 144hz so having a laptop that is higher refresh is a bit odd. It would be nice to match it at 144hz as an option.

2. Vsync works when the machine is able to provide enough performance to always have a game running at the monitor's refresh rate. 240hz is insane to request of a mobile GPU for anything but esports titles. It would be nice to be able to turn down to 90hz, 120hz, 144hz, etc to be able to maximize the performance efficiency.

3. If you lower the refresh rate, and the game isn't demanding...guess what, less power usage and as a result less heat....less heat means less NOISE. This is the principle behind nVidia Whisper Mode.

See screenshot for the setting I'm talking about.

Thank you anyone who replies 🙂

240hz and 60hz only.
nice nice ))
The specs on this laptop are just amazing. Razer over apple when it comes to quality, price and performance oeh don't forget design. I find it amazing how to keep innovating and improving. having all of that in that thin body!. all i need to do now is save up some money and get me that 15" with 144hz or 240hz panel, atleastt a 2060 in there and CPU with 6 cores.

donations anyone?? lol 😛

I like it nice. My laptop fps now is really bad and look at this it’s amazing.
I've been waiting to snatch a new laptop for a while now (Upgrading from 2016 MBP) and as soon as I saw the 2k even razer blade 15 with a 2060, i7 9750, base model (LCD full HD, empty 2.5" 7mm sata, Gigabit internet) i checked it every day until i could order it two days ago. I'm now typing on the best laptop I've ever used and I love it so much. Def a fingerprint magnet but i was going to get a skin anyway. The arrowkey layout is a bit odd but I'll get used to it. Being a long-time mac user, i can most certainly say my worries were unfounded. This feels just like a macbook pro but smoother and more reliable. I love this computer, there's almost nothing wrong with it, I was worried that going from the glossy ~4k display on the mac to the IPS LCD 1080p display would be bad but the color accuracy on this is really good, there's not as much bleeding as on my MSI monitor, and the 144hz display is a blessing. All-over I love this computer already and the performance in comparison to the old computer is simply astounding. I tried to benchmark it with Rocket league, the last build being a MBP with an eGPU + RX 580 and it ran at about 110-115 fps. This hit the max frame cap of 250 easily and i had to find a more intensive benchmark.
There's not enough good things I can say about this laptop, its keyboard ACTUALLY WORKS (ahem apple what the hell why couldnt you even do that) and the trackpad is incredible on this thing. I got used to the double-touch drag function on windows in about 10 seconds, so I'm definitely going to have this laptop and love it for a long time. Build quality is 10/10, form factor is great, fan whine is a little loud but who cares lol that's not my problem with my headset on, and I won't be gaming during lectures so ye

Very recommend.

Razer Blade 15 Advanced (2019).. no more BSOD!!

OK so for those of you who are in the same boat and have been plagued with the same frustrating BSOD - VIDEO_TDR_FAILURE (nvlddmkm.sys), I've managed to go about 5 days now without encountering it *Knock on wood*

I can't pinpoint the exact 1 thing that has "fixed" the issue, but this is what I've done and hopefully it helps others too.

FYI, here is an abstract of the BSOD minidumps that were created: BugCheck 116, {ffff8902e93a2010, fffff8059c042140, ffffffffc000009a, 4}

Unable to load image \\SystemRoot\\System32\\DriverStore\\FileRepository\\nvrzi.inf_amd64_0a22d906d95c4221\\nvlddmkm.sys, Win32 error 0n2 *** WARNING: Unable to verify timestamp for nvlddmkm.sys *** ERROR: Module load completed but symbols could not be loaded for nvlddmkm.sys *** WARNING: Unable to verify timestamp for win32k.sys *** ERROR: Module load completed but symbols could not be loaded for win32k.sys Probably caused by : nvlddmkm.sys ( nvlddmkm+ba2140 )

So what I've done is:

  • Download the latest Nvidia Game Ready DCH drivers.
  • Download DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) (https://www.wagnardsoft.com/.
  • Download Wagnard TDR Manipulator (https://www.wagnardsoft.com/Tdr Manipulator/Tdr Manipulator v1.1.zip).
  • Disconnect from the internet completely. This is to ensure Windows doesn't try to reinstall the graphics card drivers again.
  • Uninstall the drivers for your card (GTX/RTX) in Device Manager.
  • Reboot into safe mode.
  • Run DDU and clean up the Nvidia graphics files.
  • Reboot into Windows normally.
  • Install the latest Nvidia Game Ready DCH graphics card drivers downloaded. Do a clean install and don't install GeForce Experience.
  • Run TDR Manipulator and set the TdrDelay value to 10 (default value is 10). This is the same as changing the value using regedit but this tool just makes it easier to do so. Ultimately, this is a workaround and gives the GPU 10 seconds to recover/respond vs. before the TDR Watchdog cracks the shits and results in a VIDEO_TDR_FAILURE (nvlddmkm.sys) BSOD.
  • Restart and enjoy no more BSOD.

Although I cannot pinpoint the exact fix, i'm almost certain it has to do with the workaround with the longer TdrDelay, as I've previously done countless clean installs with DDU but still encountered the BSOD.
So does the Blade 15 with 2060 that doesn't mention the Max Q have full 2060? It's the only configuration that doesn't explicitly have "Max Q" in the name.

Curious because I'm buying to use with Lumion and the passmark of the 2080 Max Q to the 2060 w/o Max Q are essentially the same. Might be a better value for my particular need if it is in fact not Max Q. Anybody know?
0V3R_K1LL
Aaey, announcing the 2060 mere minutes after NVIDIA. I like it.

I read that too. However, I think that is only pertaining to adobe premier pro. English is my 7th Language. it must be the tenth for crazycoder. Super fail.
Fail or not, driver update alone has fixed the BSOD for me. TDR cannot be app specific, it's a driver bug, fixing it for Adobe Premier can also fix it for other cases that were not the part of the original bug report.

Thanks for sharing that. I was digging around the release notes for the hotfix version that was just released (v430.97) and found nothing.

Yeah, I don't think it's specific to Adobe Premier as TDR is a Windows OS watchdog function, nothing specifically to do with a specific application. Basically Windows cracks the sh!ts if the GPU doesn't respond in time. Funny thing though is that my BSOD was only occuring when I was unplugged from charger and doing things that would not have even needed the nvidia GPU and was only using the integrated Intel graphics.
