What is everyone's opinion on if its worth buying a gaming laptop like this or me building my own desktop? Just curious as ill be coming into some money and would really like a nice gaming rig.

This really depends on how and where you will be spending your time. Based on your question, the how is gaming, so if you want the flexibility of doing that anywhere, then get a gaming laptop. An added benefit over a custom built desktop rig is that you'll have a warranty for the first year, and with Razer, you can extend for up to three years. Just remember that with Max-Q RTX, a comparable desktop equivalent is one designation down, i.e., a Max-Q RTX 2080 is roughly equivalent to a desktop RTX 2070 in performance.

Personally, nothing beats a custom built rig, you'll know every part of it and it is upgradable. Your laptop will be dated the second you buy it and you'll only be able to upgrade the memory and storage. Your custom built rig on the other hand can be torn down to the case, and even that can be changed out if you want. I also think for a longer gaming session, a desktop setup is more comfortable, however if you go with a laptop, chances are that you'll wind up using an external keyboard, mouse, and monitor for most of your gaming anyway.

Hope this perspective helps!
Anybody know if the 2080 max q version will be offered in Mercury White? Kinda strange that it's limited to the 2060 and 2070 512gb versions.

I got the Advanced OLED yesterday and I have to say, of any laptop I have, including my MacBook Pro, it is hands down and far away the best screen I have ever seen on a laptop. OLED on a Razer is a match made in heaven! I originally thought the HD Advanced would be enough, but my applications (not games) require 4K, so this is perfect. Colors are crisp, vibrant and not overly saturated. I'll post some benchmarks from both the Advanced 15 HD Max-Q 2080 and the Advanced 15 OLED Max-Q2080 since the CPU and chipsets are different. Good job Razer!!

Nice, can’t wait your benchmarks comparison:smile_:

Some steam game may bug the optimus tech, I experienced also at first time, forgot Blade 14 or 15, owning it, it was Rocket League. Try go to nvidia controll Panel by right clicking, 3D setting and on program apps change MH world exe file from global/balanced to maximum performance nvidia graphic. Once I changed it, the program runs always on nvidia.

Already tried the NVIDIA control panel. Also this only happen to monster hunter. I tried TW three kingdom and it’s fine
just great ...

So I got the same laptop as you yesterday and I agree the screen is amazing. I’m running into a problem and was wondering if you’re seeing the same thing.

Games that support HDR aren’t see omg the OLED panel as HDR capable and wont allow me to turn HDR on in their menus. I’ve tested Sekiro and Resident Evil 2 so far and both don’t work. The HDR setting in the menu for both games is greeted out. I have tried with both the toggle on and off for “HDR games and apps” in the Windows 10 settings. I know both games work properly when they can detect a HDR display because I have my desktop connected to a LG OLED and HDR in those games work perfectly on it.

I’m not familiar with this benchmarks score, but you can try run 3Dmark and show me HWinfo64 to see if your cpu and gpu works as it should be, you can check the parts temperature as well with that software.[/quote]

Thanks for sharing. This did allow me to figure out just what was and what wasn't working. The first thing I did when I got this machine was swap out the SSD for a larger one, then installed windows and all the software to control the machine. Eventually I optimized all the settings to achieve non throttling results, and yes, our scores are very similar now. Whew! Now I get to enjoy the machine!

Guys, what is the battery life of the oled machines?

The only thing I dont get is that the fans spins up as fuck when I'm starting the Razer synapse Software.

When I'm closing the Synapse Software and all the Services, the fans getting quiet.

Someone have this issue too?

Yes Me. According to razers support, synapse is having issues which will hopefully be fixed soon. Let’s see ...
I'm glad to see the 2060 but was hoping for some sort of 9th Gen CPU. Right now I'm trying to decide on whether or I should purchase the 2060 with the 8th gen chip or try my patience and wait for the 9th Gen processors to be released. I was also a little disappointed I'm probably going to have to opt for the 512GB and there no longer is a option for the 2nd drive (at least as far as I know there is no way to add a gaming/storage/data drive) along with the boot drive.

Anyone know about the 9th gen chips or the option to add a 2nd drive later? Those two are the only thing keeping me from looking at Asus Laptops. I'd like to stick with Razer but the 2nd drive might be a deal breaker for me.

Hey guys, just finished up my review. Really excited to have this one as my daily driver!

Really great in depth review. I need to go back to it with more time and get back to you on a couple of things if that's ok.

I think you're spot on regarding the keyboard, if only the keys had a couple extra mm of travel it would be a great improvement but more importantly that arrow key right next to the shift key is really a terrible idea and a complete design flaw imo.

So thanks for pointing out your tip using synapse to change the arrow key into a shit key, genius! I'll probably also use a few Hypershift combinations for shortcuts. Yeah I thought these were great tips so thanks again!

Do you write regularly for outlets as a freelance ?

Right I'm off to have a play with Synaspe and fix that stupid arrow key! :)

I'll be posting some of my scores of my RB15 2070 MQ, I find the differences with 2080 MQ to be a little.. strange and interesting?

PS: It really sucks that Razer only upgraded the chroma lighting on the Fn keys only for the US keyboard, so us folks in the EU for example still don't have them backlight. Thanks Razer.
I just ordered the Advanced RTX 2080. I'm drooling. I got Anthem for free too. I hope the "Preparing my order" doesn't take long. I've not had a gaming rig for nearly 2 years.. I'm aching to have fun again.

Hope this machine works out of the box.. always wanted one.. ever since the first Razer Blade was announced.

Depends on the workflow. Normal use or gaming?

Mainly I am interested on normal use. On gaming I am not expecting much anyways, and that is ok.

@Joikansai do you know what is the actual warranty for EU/Germany, is it 1 or 2 years because it is not clear. I saw you mention here that it is two years based on the response that you got from razer support in Hamburg. However my confusing comes from this thread /minimum-2-year-guarantee-in-europe.17573/page-2 where they discriminate the warranties to commercial guarantee and legal guarantee (/minimum-2-year-guarantee-in-europe.17573/page-2#post-293268) where the first one is 1 year and the second one 2 years. To be honest though I do not understand their difference and how it applies to a razer blade purchase in EU.

You definitely chose the right time to order a Razer machine, they've never been so close to being almost perfect, this is their best Blade 15 so far.

The keyboard needs more travel and the up arrow key is in the wrong place but that's about it, its still a pretty good keyboard and I encourage people to use the tip in @Derek712's review and remap the key using the Synapse software, which by the way is one of the better implementations of a control software I've seen so far from an OEM. I normally uninstall that kind of stuff.

Its pretty powerful, if you like RGB its a tweakers paradise and it runs without taking hardly any cpu resources.

The 2080 MQ will rock all your games so have fun!
Bought it last week. FPS went to crap (sub 30 for monster hunter world) unplugged. Dealing with support + reddit now but my 14 days window (refundable for manufacturing defects) is closing -

1. is it normal for RTX laptops to have FPS drop of this magnitude when unplugged, even with all settings (nvidia control panel, geforce experience, windows graphics setting) set to performance mode?
2. is it just B15 base throttling? what about the advance? Or what about other brand/models?
I played Anno1800 for around an hour without drops on battery.

It's a CPU intensive game right?

Monster hunter was quite unoptimized title even plugged in I got frame drops on several areas. Blade performance self actually is better on battery than other manufactures I got like 22% performance drop on gaming benchmarks, timespy on 2018 1070mq Blade 15, heard from Alienware gaming laptop, m15 r1, it apparently dropped over 50% performance on battery. Here’s the Battery vs plugged performance difference, I forgot once to switch on power on wall socket and run shadow of war, didn’t notice it was on battery until low battery indicator popped in.
are there any review videos based on the OLED version? I want to pull the trigger for getting one, but I would prefer to see a review first 😛
