Hey I noticed you mentioned you have the UHD model of the Razer Blade Pro? So you have the one with the 4K display and the internal GTX 1080? If that's the case I'm on the understanding that the functionality for using an external GPU is disabled on that laptop.

If it’s true that’s shameful of them, but I’m actually doubt about that, it’s stated Core x supports Blade Pro i think, and on this thread i remember a user reported that it works with his Blade Pro UHD, plus any laptops that has Thunderbolt port even gen 1 are basically could be paired with external GPU with its TB port.

You shouldn't be doubtful of such things. Razer is pretty well known for doing things like that because until recently they had very little competition in the thin and light laptop market and they really did what ever they wanted. I was looking into this and from what I can find the 2016 version definitely can't be used with an external GPU. I don't know why they would do that but there are several big name youtubers that mention it. All 2016 versions. So they might have changed that in the 2017 model.

At 2:20 Linus talks about the usb-c port and mentions the Razer Core isn't supported. But again this is the 2016 model. So it could work on the newer model if they changed it, but it definitely didn't work on the older 2016 one. Very silly.

I remember that video yes you’re right it was not “officially” supported, as well Blade Pro FHD when I’m not wrong on first release they didn’t also mention Core supported but after several weeks it was. Now on Razer Core X page it stated, supported Razer Blade Pro with Thunderbolt 3tm, I think it’s also included Pro 2016 (yes they may improve the compatibility). Linus said it is meaningless but he is wrong imo, with 1080ti, it should outperform gtx1080 inside it even maybe not huge due TB3 and only in 4K or 1440p resolution for less bottleneck, and with eGPU user will have better system thermal compared to using dgpu inside Blade Pro. For example on FFXV, I’ve game benchmarks on it on my signature, it’s between 1080 and 1080ti on 4K resolution.

Well this is good news then. Seems like they definitely changed it. I was disappointed when I first heard it was supported on the original Razer Blade Pro. I know a few members that use quadro cards in there Razer Cores so that’s good news for them. Or anyone wanting a 1080ti. Kinda wish I had one now so I could test that. :confused_:

I just got the Razer Blade 15" w/ 1070 GPU yesterday. It replaced a 2016 Razer Blade that died. I took the new one home and plugged it up to my Core V2 but it is not working. I can't figure out what the issue is. On my old razer blade it was truly plug and play. I tried unplugging the core for 30+ seconds to reset it, restarted the laptop with the core plugged in, and installed the latest graphics drivers with no luck.

Saw similar issues somewhere. Blade 15 comes with synapse 3 and Core v2 is still in synapse 2, it may be the issue. I had also some weird issues at first installation, every time I unplug it I’ve to reinstall nvidia driver in order the Blade to recognize dGPU 1070 maxq. But after several updates it was somehow gone. Now I’m using gpu switcher, it stayed for Blade 2016 and 2017, but for me it also work on Blade 15. Try installing it. And if it still doesn’t work try uninstall TB3 driver and reinstall it again (from Blade 15 driver page or use intel nuc version one doesn’t matter, at first plug don’t forget to choice “always recognize” the core on intel TB3 software menu, it could be also the issue). Btw it works fine, I’m unplugging it by switching the gpu first to dGPU and take off the cable, after that when I want to use the core, i plug it and it’s hot plug (plug and play).

Thanks for the reply. I ended up figuring out the issue. I installed synapse 2 and for some reason in my Thunderbolt 3 settings the Core was detected but set to "disconnect." I set both Core Thunderbolt 3 controllers to "Always Connect" and then Synapse 2 picked up the Core and everything worked fine. Very odd though. I do not remember having to adjust any Thunderbolt 3 settings on my previous blade laptop.

This question is maybe too early. Will it support rtx cards? I hope Fe RTX card will fit on the core well and there will no driver issues with gtx card on Blade as well. Maybe due on 2080ti due higher tdp, only Core x PSU can handle it. Hope engineering teams preparing the compatibility update for this.

Not officially but yes it works laptops or mini pc like intel Nuc or Mac mini that support TB connection, TB3 get the best connection. Note desktop or mini itx pc that has its own dedicated gpu on mobo can’t use Razer Core or other egpu enclosure.
