For me it was D&D. But for the last ten years it has been WoW. In my opinion Blizzard introduced and brought online gaming to the mainstream...

It would seem I am older than most here since I got into online gaming in the modem days.

The first game that truly sucked me into online play was the original Team Fortress mod for Quake. Gave an experience that I had never had before with the focus on team and class-based gameplay. My first experience with competitive gameplay via clan scrimmages.

Other big milestone games for me since then were:

    - SubSpace, which limps on even now under the name Continuum. A very simple top-down 2d space shooter that had the classic recipe of "easy to get into, hard to master". I was addicted to this game, and the various game modes that were created for it, for a long time.

    - Half-Life multiplayer mods. Counterstrike was obviously the big one. I played the original beta when it first came out, which was only one map I believe, mansion. I remember booting up GameSpy and connecting to my first CounterStrike game, and I was hooked. Then you add to that other mods like Team Fortress Classic and Day of Defeat, and I don't think I ever got more value out of a single game purchase than I did from Half-Life.

    - EverQuest, my first MMO. I bought it the day it came out, and it absolutely blew me away. The graphics were amazing for the day, the sheer depth and amount of freedom were incredible, and the difficult/punishing gameplay pushed you into groups and guilds by necessity.

  4. Maplestory and Runescape were my gateway into online gaming. I started when I was about 9 and I've been gaming ever since.

World of Warcraft since 2006. The best time of my gaming life with close friends joining together.

  7. Good ole Runescape, I'm in the same boat that you're in. I still have access to one of my old accounts. I believe it's level 100. Not exactly sure xD
I still remember when I first learned how to do law rune runs, and I made a bunch of gold and wouldn't tell my brother how hahaha

Diablo II was my first online I would say, but then shortly after I got into TFC and CS :) those are still some of my favorite games to this day. Just wish TFC has more servers up.

    Rift.

I have spent many hours healing in warfronts to the sound of Glitch Mob.

Rift was part of the Extra Life 24hr event in 2011, I remember having a blast invading Sanctum with the developers of the game!

  11. My schoolmate Louis who told me about a shooter called Crossfire. I played crossfire and then on out to MMORPG and now to League of Legends and CS: GO.

some of my friends and i played DOTA before dota2 came out. i really liked playing with friends, in the same apartment, yelling at eachother. :) after that, i played some LoL but never really got good at either game. it was more of a community thing for me. but i do like the games.

I'm gonna be honest RuneScape was what got me into it. I didn't even play Halo 1 online until a lot later in life, just local multiplayer and campaign. I have to thank my friend for RuneScape though, without him I wouldn't have gotten into online gaming. Ha.

First game was Rainbow Six, was neat at the time, became part of a clan and was talking to teammates from across the country and abroad!

I started to play counter strike when i was about 9. My brother was playing and got me into it. that was about 13 years ago.

  19. So true. Reminds I have about 6 months of new RuneScape quests to play.

RS was the first game that got me into online gaming a long, long time ago. I still hang out with my RS clan in irc/other games, though none of us play RS much these days.
