I just go to “Task Manager / right click / End task”. Every time i need to do this 3 times and then the “Razer Central Service (32 bit)” is completely dead. No idea why it always needs 3 times. (first 2 times this process re-runs by itself)

First noticed this 1-2 days ago probably when i updated windows to last update. Noticed that every 40 seconds my fans speed up and after a bit speed down again all the time… Then checked Task Manager and saw that process taking 15% of CPU.

Using Asus Rog Strix Scar III [Win 10 (all updates), i7 9750H, RTX 2070, 2TB 970 Evo Plus, 16GB DDR4 2666Mhz]

Killing the RazerCentralService should make Razer Synapse configurations not working anymore - so if you don’t want or need to run the customization of your Razor devices but don’t want do plain uninstall the whole software package, you can simply disable the RazerCentralService for good (i.e. making it not start at all on boot):

  1. use either the “Run” command or the commandline/ DOS box to launch services.msc howto services
  2. scroll down the list of services and look for “Razer Central Service”
  3. Right-Click it and select “Properties”
  4. in Properties, change “Startup Type” (from probably “automatic”) to “disabled”

that should completely disable the service and prevent the service from starting even after a reboot.

though i’m not sure there is any point i leaving the Razor software package installed when it’s effectively without any functionality anyways.

Anyway, for me uninstalling AVAST AntiVirus resolved the issue with RazerCentralService and my Razer devices work again without undue processor load

Oh didn’t noticed any difference, i guess cause i have all razer modules uninstalled. i don’t use rgb or settings for that. only a setting for my DPI mouse button that still works fine. I also use Avast Free Antivirus...

Razer update 3.8.209.20311 (latest available for me) did not fix. The wars3 workaround did. Big thanks!

Hi All. fyi, today’s windows 11 update (2023-02 Cumulative Update for Windows 11 Version 22H2 for x64-based Systems, KB5022913)  fixed the problem for me.

Same issue here but seems a lot worse

Hi,

absolutely same issue today after updating Avast, no point going in details. Is there any solution yet from Razer?

I killed the service from starting u at the moment (set to manual) as its absolutely insane to think I’ll uninstal paid for AV solution in favour of periferials!

I think I’m swaping to Logitech after this, I never had ANY issue before I swapped to Razer. I’m kinda dissapointed.

Regards.

That decision would of course be up to to, but I don’t entirely get it: for you (and me and a couple of others here) the problem didn’t start with any changes of the Razer software, but with updating the AVAST engine.

I had updated the Razer software several days before I updated the AVAST engine, and until that AVAST update RazerService worked as well (or as badly, depending on your personal opinion) as usual with no unusual issues.

I noticed the issues directly after rebooting after the AVAST update.

While that doesn’t imply that Razer’s isn’t at fault at all, it implies AVAST is at least partially responsible.

And as to the argument here that because of not just AVAST having an issue with Razer but AVG too implying it’s fully Razer’s fault: AVAST aquired AVG a while ago, so it’s not unreasonable to expect parts of both AV solutions using similar algorithms/ mechanisms.

Several other AV solutions do NOT seem to have any issues with Razer (yet?).

I’m not a big fan myself of what I perceive as a pretty bloated Razer software package to provide my Razer hardware with even just the most basic functionalities nor would I state I never had any issues with that software, but I use AVAST a decade myself and I had minor and bigger issues with that software too in the past.

I’m currently using a Razor BlackWidow Elite keyboard and a Razer DeathAdder 2 mouse, but I started out with a Logitech MX Master 3, changing to the Deathadder just because it fits my somewhat large hands better and the wear and tear gaming has on a mouse isn’t as expensive if i have to replace the (comparatively) cheap Deathadder. I still have and treasure my MX Master 3 but on my system the Logitech software wasn’t exactly the pinnacle of great software design & reliability either, only it didn’t matter that much to me.

AVAST isn’t by default flawless, nor is Razer (or for that matter MicroSoft or Logitech).

I get your point, in part, but do consider ppl approach to issues in different way, and its perfecly fine.

To be clear, I absolutely never ever had any issues with Avast and I’m using it over 2 decades! While Razer… well not the best records in less than a year I’m using Synapse 3. Had several issues with it, no issues with version 2 and Naga tho… I do agree with superbloated Razer software esp Syn3… just.. why??? Its just more possibilities for things to go wrong…

Based on above, however odd this seems to you, its just simple statistics on user experience and deductions for how to go forward for me: if there are issues, whatever new came in last, goes out first! Reevaluate and if this fixes the issue, it fixes the issue.

Regards… hope it gets fixed fast.

Edit: windows update (2023–02 cumulative update for Windows 10 Version 22H2 (KB5022906) fixed it for me… strange AV issue...

Same goes for win 10 (2023–02 Cumulative update for Windows 10 Version 22H2 for x64-based Systems, KB5022906) on my pc. Did update synapse to lates version. Still works. Hope it stays that way.

I was stuck on the impossibility to update (by any way, through Synapse or manual) because each time it was triggering the faulty process and the instaler failed

Even uninstal was not working

After a lot of try, here what worked for me at least :

  1. Run the workaround wars.exe
  2. Uninstal Synapse
  3. REBOOT (tried 2 times without reboot it was not working)
  4. Run the workaround wars.exe (I havent tried without first, but at this point I put every trinkets on my side :p)
  5. Reinstal Synapse with last instaler on the website as sayed earlier
  6. Stop workaround wars.exe

Since then, after multiple reboot, a night, and different activities on the computer, no more issue

If it can help :)

Come on, we didn’t bought Razer mouses and keyboards just because they look cool. We bought this expensive things because we use macros and profiles to different games.

What’s the point of this, if we need to disable Razer Central Service ? Better find some cheap mouse…

And I’m using Avast since like...15 years, so I would prefer to keep it too...

i have this process disabled and my DPI & macro settings still work. (DPI tho needs extremely large time to change)

I noticed some lag in my games. noticed the same issue as this thread. uninstalled synapse and cortex and boom, problem gone….

sort your shit out, dear razer

Hello,

I have the same problem. I hope this problem is solved soon, because if not, I will replace the razer mouse and keyboard.

Thanks

its NOT the antivirus. there are other users reporting this problem who have completely different antivirus programs. theres a guy on one of these threads who reported he has avg, another indicated they’re using -shudders- mcafee.

translation for my fellow forum users:

Exactly my thought that it is not Avast but Razer's own software. As mentioned before, there was exactly the same problem a few years ago. By the way, Razer Central Service has been causing problems for years. I talked to various people I know. And all those who use Razer confirm the current problem and that there have been problems with Synapse, Synapse 2 and Synapse 3 for years or still have.

my comment
that was the other bit of logic behind my own commentary.

FIX IT PLEASE!!! I’m tired of having to kill tasks!

Found this workaround from Avast forum. It worked for me. Better than uninstalling either one of software. This wars3.exe runs in background.

Try this

Thank you, it worked for me

How do you use that ?

same issue here. talking with razer chat for a lot time, seems like they dont understand what happening and this is only mine problem despite i saw them all forums with same issue… :(

Same, I had it on my laptop and I noticed my battery TANKING the last few weeks. Finally discovered it was razer synapse!! I don’t even have any razer peripherals anymore…

Rather uninstall AntiVirus entirely. Is there improvement if simply change AV to exclude Razer folders from scanning.

C:\Program Files (x86)\Razer

C:\ProgramData\Razer

Honesty though free Avast is bit resource hog. That’s why I prefer paid ESET, better optimised and I deploy on corporate network.

I tried this, but it didn’t help. I have Avast Premium Security.

Problem solved, guys. I installed Avast and everything works fine now.

Problem gelöst. Ich habe Avast installiert und jetzt funktioniert alles einwandfrei.

Cheers

I confirm the wars3 workaround works like a charm for me!
I have Avast as well but I’m not removing it.
Thanks!!!

But the problem is Avast/AVG (both are same company) last program update

Ok guys i just installed Avast again after updating Synapse and Windows and all’s great here too….

I like to say thanks to razer for the DM and hopefully fixing the problem.

Thanks all

This really help. Now is this fixed via Razer Central. Run wars.exe and kill all process Razer. Run Synapse, wait and update Razer Synapse.

Hi Guys,
I have Razer Synapse and Avast. I have been using wars.exe from 2 days.

Today I got an update from Razer and after updating synapse and Razer Central issue got resolved.

I removed wars.exe and tested it, now CPU remains normal.

Thanks to Razer team.
