Ryder Synapse 3 40 to 100% CPU usage WMI Provider Host | Razer Insider
Skip to main content
Hello guys, a few days ago I have been having a problem of high cpu usage sometimes up to 100% with the WMI provider host and reading in reedit I realized that several people had this problem and that it was caused by razer synapse 3 software when uninstalling it the problem went away and my cpu returned to normal, do you have a solution for this, my keyboard and mouse are Razer. thank you very much.

Note: I have windows 11 Pro and i9 13900k RTX 4090 and Asus Z790 Hero.

Similar issue. If Synapse 3 is running in background, WMI provider host repeatedly ramps up CPU usage causing CPU to continuously go from low usage 800MHz to boost rate 4.8GHz. Simply closing the Synapse process instantly fixes the issue.
Same here, WMI service restart tends to fix it... long ago I had a similar issue with Bitdefender scanning Synapse 3 non-stop... Now windows Hates Synapse.. fix your shit razer... the built quality ain't the only problem... we're also having a discussion on reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/razer/comments/xk8xas/razer_synapse_constantly_forcing_wmi_provider/
This is what synapse does all the time in WMI, I've noticed. it repeats this loop all the time.

It seems people have created 2 duplicate threads in support section of forum.

https://insider.razer.com/razer-support-45/razercentralservice-takes-too-much-cpu-since-update-20230212-43714

https://insider.razer.com/razer-support-45/razer-central-service-30-cpu-usage-always-43587

This thread has much more useful information in terms of providing logs. Might be better to keep/move this into support section then direct other 2 threads to this instead.

Very much urge if below can be passed onto Razer software developers. It is a strong avenue to look at first in the way timeout value on Razer client side is set in issuing WMI requests.

Any updates on this ?, because I'm running the latest Synapse version (3.8.209.20311), and the issue is still there
After the latest update:

I have cpu overload on WMI Provider Host.

Razer you need to let us roll back update of the synapse app.

You need to disable the latest update and let us download the old one.

Hi TheKukitos! Please submit a case to our Support Team, including a shareable link from any online drive account containing your Synapse 3.0 logs, or send me a PM so I can help you initiate a support ticket.
Same issue on Windows 10. While Synapse in running, WMI Provider Host gets anywhere between 10% and 90% CPU usage (higher when doing anything in Synapse), 0% when Synapse is closed and all the trailing processes (specifically GameManagerService) are killed in the Task Manager.

Read a suggestion that updating Synapse solves this, but no luck with up-to-date 3.7.1209.121307.

There are multiple error lines like below in the logs. Please pass this to your engineering team for further investigation.

It seems Synapse is continuously polling to get certain process info and failed.

My WMI repository is consistent with no errors, as well as sfc scan result.

C:\\>winmgmt /verifyrepository

WMI repository is consistent

C:\\>sfc /scannow

Beginning system scan. This process will take some time.

Beginning verification phase of system scan.

Verification 100% complete.

Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.

Restarting Windows Management Instrumentation involved restarting its dependent services as well, but it does serve as a workaround, thanks.

Looks like this issue has been around for a very long time. Probably was not noticeable before but now as it takes more CPU cycles with each update it has become more visible to people. Sometimes low CPU usage, sometimes high between updates from different user experiences.

Just a bit annoying to now have a desktop .bat script to run as admin whenever I restart Synapse.

net stop Winmgmt

net start Winmgmt
Unfortunately, for me, WMI provider host is still hogging 10-15% CPU, even after disabling Game Manager service, I can still hear my fan. I would have to resort to restarting WMI in the meantime, very annoying indeed.

I guess I need to switch to liquid cooling if I want to install Synapse 🙂
I've registered just for this. Ever since Saturday when Razer Synapse made an update, i get this issue as well.

Whenever i start the Razer Synapse my WMI goes to space. Either restarting "Windows Management Instrumentation" fixes it, until i try to start the program again.

Fix this or let us go to previous version.
I have the same problem, please fix this or let us go to previous version
@Wendigo-ove

Once exit Razer apps. The Razer services are still running in background but WMI activity log stops logging further events. So it stops WMI requests at that point.

If Synapse open, it starts to look like below...

2nd screenshot. Razer services takes up so much system resources just to change lights/control fans. Hogs more resources than other apps. At this point I don't care about RGB if I can find third party way of fan control.

Can Razer support please confirm this thread is monitored?
Same problem since yesterday.

this topic cannot be ignored. because that would not make sense to exist the forum razer insider.

even more so far several people have committed to reporting the problem. do you find it useless or do you want direct answer from them?

I have re-requested Razer support to confirm that they are actually looking at this topic.

Same here, I haven’t found any release notes at all. Usually you can deduce some “inspiration” on what might have changed and might have caused our WMI-CPU load problems.

Yes, but the bottom line is… if the website can’t keep pages correct and version updated even after a week, then overall quality of “work” is lacking something.

Sidenote: Early days (1997) of the Visual Studio suite, my company was checking to see if it was ok for production use. Still remember the sinking feeling when the splash screen for program came up at startup and there was spelling errors in it… not a good start…

No new version found when I check for update.

It seems only a handful of people managed to get this not-yet-public update.

I tried check for updates (nothing), tried installing again with latest installer (nothing).

Razer support said this is being rolled out region by region.  I have tried VPN to Australia, Singapore, Hong Kong, USA, and still am not able to pick up this update.

Thanks to info from Peter8UK

The actual installer RazerSynapseInstaller_V1.12.0.385 is the same everywhere in the world.  I did “fc /b” compare on different files, and they are all the same.

Whether it is https://www.razer.com/gb-en/synapse-3  or https://www.razer.com/hk-en/synapse-3 or https://www.razer.com/us-en/synapse-3

The key is, before you run the installer, you need to be a UK IP address, then it will go download the new version.  Maybe only the UK server is hosting the new version at the moment.

I VPN to UK before running the installer, and it picked up the new version.
