  1. I don't think he's talking about his refresh rate, just a performance drop. I don't think any of razer's computers' monitors go above 60 and not all 1080p external monitors do either. This sounds like a bug with the core and 1080 even if using an external monitor gives a little bit of a boost.

After all the info you've given (which is super appreciated) I've decided not to go with the core and blade. I'm going to keep my 2015 Blade and build a 1080 desktop. Hopefully the 1070m (maybe 1080m since they don't run as hot supposedly?) for the 2017 Blade can run 4K gaming at 30fps.

Has anyone considered that the 1080 may require more bandwidth than a 980? It may be using most of the available bandwidth over the thunderbolt connection causing a bottleneck especially when using the laptop's display. The 980 may not top the available bandwidth and therefore provide better performance?

It can't be. Performance of graphics card on PCIe 3.0 4x and 16x are nearly same.

  5. I have a stealth and 1080 - anything you want me to test?

How is the noise level, and does higher resolution with lower settings look better than lower resolution with higher settings on AAA games like Doom.

If you could get it to run at 2k resolution with 60fps with the settings turned down, in your opinion would it still look good?

  7. Ok. Let me try my best to unpack this.

I have the Core hooked up to a 1080p 60hz display (external) - Doom on ultra is locked at 60 - no dips - 4.5 hours into the game.

If I switch it to the stealth screen - 1440 -2560 - locked at 60 fps - no dips.

When I originally hooked up the core I was seeing Doom play at 60-75 fps - highest noted was 97 lowest 58.

Im not sure why it is now locked at 60...... I feel like I tweaked a setting without knowing.....

Lowering the resolution has no effect on fps - still locked at 60 fps. So im sure something is going on with setting i dont understand.

I have not updated anything. I plugged the 1080 into the core. Plugged the core into the stealth - let synapse do its job - launched doom.

    Does that help?

Hmm 60fps is good enough for me, at higher than 1080p resolution, for fast shooters like Doom.

For games like Witcher 3 and Tomb Raider, I'm hoping for above 30fps at 4k using the internal screen.

Don't hold your breath for that. In Witcher 3, I get around 30 FPS internal display at Blade 14" 3200*1800 resolution. Going to 4K and having only a stealth 6500u processor is certainly going to lower the performance much more. I wouldn't be surprised if the FPS is in the twenties or lower.

It may happens due to Optimus technology. If you're using internal screen, your integrated graphics will be a framebuffer for it. so you should check your intel graphics settings that forces to use V-Sync.

  13. Wow, looks like today is a good day to f5 :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: I hope I get one, I want to see how well my vive will work with a 1080 and blade stealth!

I kind of feel that the 40gb/s bandwidth of the core is bottle necking the gtx 1080. This is especially present if you have peripherals connected to the core and sending the video back to the internal display via the USB C. Just saying. It may be nice to get a bandwidth test on the 1080 compared to the 980. I mean the mem bandwidth is 320gb/s on the 1080 not sure how much that transfers to the bandwidth requirement though.

Most of what I am seeing online about the performance of the core is all theory, a reason why I've been stalking these forums is the hope to see more benchmarks of the Core. Does anyone know if there is a dedicated thread on this topic? I feel that I will be pulling the trigger anyway without this data. lol

The memory bandwidth doesn't necessarily have a lot of do with the bus bandwidth in steady state. It's like comparing the speed of you hard drive to the speed of your internet connection; most of the time you're going to load the content up and then reprocess it over and over again locally at higher speeds.

Is anyone aware of a method of measuring bus bandwidth? I was under the impression that was not an easy thing to benchmark.

I'm not sure how I feel about your site, (in the best of ways). Seeing so many core makes me so hopeful, but Razer-ordering-logic seems like the doom of me lol. Also kudos again on the website. Every person waiting for one I'm sure appreciates it :D

Edit: Fingers crossed that number jumps before orders open.

  19. Fedex just showed up with my GTX 1070 FE, so now Razer just needs to let me buy the core today, and the rest of the week will be great as I wait for core to arrive. :) I have a strange feeling though that they see we're watching the page like a pack of hungry wolves, and as such will pull the trigger at an off time to catch us off guard and give equal chance to all.

  20. Jokes on them... I have no off time >:)
