  1. Hello Razer Community,

I was curious what the meaning of Kaby Lake is in terms of processors. From my understanding, it has something to do with architecture, but how does it relate to mobos and other computer parts? Thanks!

I don´t know what you want to know exactly. It´s just a new processor with a better manufactoring process. For mobos it means that it has to Support it but if you were on sky lake then kaby lake shouldn´t be a Problem too. But otherwise it doesn´t relate to other parts of you Computer. The processor itself got of course a few features. You can easily find them on reviews or on the Intel CPU specs sheet.

Kaby lake is intel's new generation of processors.

  4. Thank you for the comments, based on this I will use Kaby Lake for my build to make it more easy to change in the future.

It is Intel's keyword for their 7th generation processors. For mobo compatibility look into 270 chipset.

All "Kaby Lake" is is a marketing name for a generation of processors. It serves no other purpose really than being something that people can remember easily.

Kaby lake is the name for intel's 7th gen processors
it's literally just a name, for example the 6th gen was skylake and the 8th gen is supposed to be cannonlake

Isn't the 8th generation called Coffee lake? And Kaby Lake has some new features compared to Sky Lake.

Cannonlake will be the 10 nanometer die shrink refinement of Kaby Lake.
Coffee Lake will be the 2nd 14 nanometer process refinement after Skylake (6th gen) and Kaby Lake (7th gen).
Both of these are based off the Skylake microarchitecture.

Ice Lake (2019) and Tiger Lake (2020) will be the successor to the Skylake microarchitecture codenamed under Ice Lake.

Kaby lake has a 4k video encoder, that's the only major difference really and even then for gamers that's meh
