Possible to change the thermal thresholds for Razer Blade 2016?

I find that the fan thresholds are too low/aggressive on this laptop. The fan will kick into medium at around high 60's. I find that with my daily usage the laptop fluctuates between 50 and 70 so that means the fan is kicking on/off often and it's kind of annoying.

I would like to experiment with maybe setting these thresholds higher, so that the fan doesnt kick in until it's above 75C for a sustained period of time.

What I think is happening in my case, is my work load just has some very temporary processing spikes. I think these spikes would take care of themselves for the most part since they are short.

Any idea if this is possible? I didn't see much info on this but I've also only had this laptop for a day.

There are some things you can try:

    • The cool or quiet settings for the fans in synapse, to see if the quiet setting gives you the behavior you are looking for.
    • You can set the max processor speed at 99%, which will disable turbo boost. This is done in the Windows power settings. This could prevent the fluctuating fan noise.
    • You could try undervolting the CPU, which would lower the temperatures generally, possibly below the fan threshold.
    • I have seen some threads on insider and notebookreview that talk about installing a custom bios, and using software to control the fans, but that seems sort of risky.
My 2015 is silent when not gaming. I have disabled turbo boost and undervolted. I don't really notice any loss in performance.

Hmm thanks I'll give perhaps the turbo boost part a try.

I was more so hoping to change at what temperature the cooling kicks in, let it get a bit hotter because my lap can take it. And the cpu/gpu can probably take it too I would assume.

I'm installing a bunch of steam games right now and the fan keeps kicking in. The bottom is pretty warm, and the top is hardly warm at all. I could live with this, without the fan winding up.

Or for that matter I would maybe be happier with a fan that is always on but slower, rather than a fan that is usually off, and then aggressively on to kick the temps back down.

Also the fan controls in synapse dont seem to be respected. I have it set to low but the fan will kick in quite frequently.
