Razer keyboards use a special font developed in-house. Some people are bugged by the fact that the "R" actually looks like a lowercase "r" while every other letter key is capitalized. In addition to this, lowercase "Razer Font" has letters that look like capitals. Take a look at the 'enter,' 'shift,' 'ctrl,' 'prt sc,' etc. keys which are written in Razer Font lowercase but have uppercase letters. So basically Razer Font uppercase has some lowercase looking letters and lowercase has some uppercase looking letters - a bit strange. The font on the new Blade Stealth is entirely different from what Razer has traditionally used. It actually resembles the font used for Razer Insider and some of the newer product pages seen at Razerzone.com. I put together this image for easier comparison: [From top to bottom: Blackwidow, Deathstalker, Blade, Blade Stealth] Interesting facts: The symbols on the Deathstalker and Blade are backlit while the symbols on the Blackwidow and Blade Stealth are not. Symbol placement for the Blade is unorthodox. Most of the text on the Deathstalker is aligned to the upper-left corner of each key while in most other cases it is roughly centered. The designer in me loves this new font. Uppercase looks like uppercase and lowercase looks like lowercase. It's sleek and consistent. I'm just annoyed because I recently bought a new Blackwidow and I suspect Razer might change the font when they decide to refresh their keyboard line. If they do make the font switch, actually on second thought, even if they don't, I really hope Razer starts offering to sell us sets of replacement keycaps for our mechanical keyboards. A keycap set is long overdue. Custom keycaps would be cool too. The matte black finish on Razer products is susceptible to wear and tear - the paint wears/scratches off after a while. Sellers on ebay want $5-7 PER keycap
I hope all future products will get the new font. I also find it intriguing that the font have different orientation in each keyboard. For example on the Blade it is in the middle while on the Blade Stealth it is a little to the top right hand corner. Also the Deathstalker is towards the top left hand corner and the Blackwidow is towards the top.
Good eye - this is our new font that we're moving to with our 2016 design refresh. It's also developed inhouse at Razer over the past 2 years.
I like the way it looks - also, I really wish that my symbols and FN info was illuminated on my Blackwidow Chroma Stealth!! I have memorized where most of the symbols and functions are, but some I just don't use as often and I have to pull out my phone to put light on the keyboard and figure it out.
Two questions: Can we get one change? The A and E to match the new look of the logo? Or ship the mech keyboards with alt key caps and let us change them if we want those two? Or just sell them in the store? I'd also like a THS replcement for either the win key or the right click button. Second, can someone explain to me the ordering of multiple characters on the same key? Like / and ? being swapped sometimes? Like the second keyboard in the above image (I think the Deathstalker?).
I actually like the old style, the new is indeed very clean but perhaps a little too generic, nothing about it says razer to me. Swappable key caps would be an awesome option though, keep everyone happy.
To create a font that quintessentially represents the spirit of gamers, you have to start again and with great intent and disconnect from the past.
The old font had character and could instantly be identified with Razer, the new font is generic. Also, I see no reason not have backlighting cutouts for the secondary keys.
I like the new clean front but I will miss my lower case "r" I would also love custom keycap sets for example a CS:GO orientated set for the hardcore CS players that maybe has a tiny flash bang icon where your flash bind is
Call it plain or generic, but this look is actually very popular among designers. It looks similar to some of the most well-known and respected (and expensive) fonts out there - looks a bit like the light verions of Helvetica Neue Light, Proxima Nova, Avenir, Segoe UI, etc.
