Just stumbled across this thread - new Razer Blade 17 Pro (2020) owner and am having the same display driver issues with an un-wake-able black screen with new nVidia drivers. Rolled back drivers and the issue goes away. Just thought I'd jump in with all the rest of you kids.

Welcome to the not so fun party 😛
For my Pro 17 4k the latest BIOS is still 1.04

Any chance there's an official update on this yet?

Following a couple of threads here on the forums and it doesn't seem like that's the case, but it's been a solid amount of time without much in the way of tangible public details made available.

Curious if these behaviors are limited to Razer units or if there may be a broader scope problem with other hardware running Nvidia cards on this recent Windows update. I've got a friend with a laptop having similar problems but I don't think they have a razer laptop.

Not to mention I'm a bit terrified to use my own blade that I recently got back from an RMA for display issues. :slightly_sad:

Hi there! The team is currently monitoring those laptops that underwent RMA. Apologies, but I can't make any statement until the team has a conclusion after the investigation. Thanks for understanding.
Hey Razer, honestly it is not fair that we still have to wait for solution. I would like to remind you that a 120 Hz 4k display the reason to buy this laptop for many of us. We still have the black screen problem. So the laptop does not work advertized. Every time it goes to hybernation OR sometimes after a fast reboot the screen remains black. On a daily base it is therefore unusable in 120 hz mode.

P.S. TTo circumvent the issue and to make sure that there is no black screen after a reboot i have to make a clean shutdown via shutdown.exe "/"p "/" f
I've also been having issues with black screens, though I have the late 2019 Razer Blade Pro 4K 120 Hz model. I was able to get the latest NVIDIA 466.11 update working on the RTX 2080 Max-Q GPU, but only if I run the system on NVIDIA Optimus which negates the purpose of having the extra expensive 4K 120 HZ model. Why have a 120 HZ screen if I can't use the 120 Hz screen? It reflects poorly on Razer as a company and will hurt the company's business and harm customer loyalty if Razer doesn't give adequate support to its customers, especially those who paid for particularly expensive products like us in this forum. I've been dealing with black screen issues since the Windows 2004 update and intermittent issues with various NVIDIA drivers not working, or certain games not running unless I'm using NVIDIA Optimus (Portal 2 is a recent example, I get a black screen unless I use NVIDIA Optimus but then I can't play in 120 HZ! It renders my purchase of this extra expensive PC as pointless!). I really wish there could be some firmware fix or communication between Razer and NVIDIA or RAZER and Microsoft or with whoever it takes to finally fix this longstanding issue that makes me deeply regret my purchase of this otherwise great PC.

Your point is well taken. I can't invalidate your claim as I also want the issue fixed. I've notified our Support Team.

Hey everyone! Feel free to submit a case so our Support Team can track those affected users and gather information from each laptop to help the investigation. I appreciate everyone's cooperation.
The newly released NVIDIA driver version 457.30 appears to have resolved the issue on my Blade Pro 17 (Early 2020). Can someone else upgrade and confirm? I'm able to use 120Hz refresh in the games that were previously black-screening and everything else appears normal. I'm also using the 1.06 BIOS.

Windows version 20H2 doesn't change anything regarding black screen after hibernation.

@Razer.SpeedCr0ss Any updates? Its been way too long without a single update of what the actual cause it and what is being done. Wish I was still in the return window. Never have I had such issues with any other laptop or company. Never again

Support updated my case initially asking me to reset/format my laptop. When queried as to whether that would do anything at all, they relented and said we still just have to wait for whatever update it is that will fix this (no word on whether it's Razer, Nvidia or MS) and to be patient.. but still no real update on what the issue is.

It would be nice to know a bit more about this. It would help set expectations as to why this is taking so long to fix.

and yeah.. wish that return window was still open. As much as I like the laptop, this is really inexcusable.
I use the laptop only for content creation and always install the studio drivers. The issue is the the same. In hybernation mode the screen is black.

Well there goes that idea.. :)

Thanks for the info though. More evidence for Razer I suppose.
It works! Miracle!!
I can confirm 466.77 works on my end. Only took Razer a year to fix this.

My Razer Blade Pro 17 4K 120 Hz 2020, Not work!

I'm sorry to hear that. So you have the latest windows updates and NVIDIA Drivers and Razer updates and it still doesn't work? If so then yeah, this is still a problem. Though I'm doing a little happy dance for myself right now, this still doesn't excuse Razer for how long it took. It doesn't even seem like they were the ones responsible for fixing this issue on my end so much as blind chance.

I have an Early 2020 Razer Pro 17 and it's not working for me, like at all. I've tried everything. I can't tell you how many times I've used DDU in the past 3 days. I'm at my wits end here. This laptop is over 5k here in Canada and the fact I can't install gpu drivers from the past 3 months is killing me. I want to love this thing so bad but every time I decide to use it another hiccup. Black screens, random resets of performance settings (120 back to 60), Chroma Studio randomly uninstalling... it's crazy.

Sorry to rant here - I'm just disappointed. This was supposed to be my dream machine.

Hello everyone.
I regret to report that the black screen returned, and that I am tired of this uncomfortable, stressful and unnecessary situation.
This Razer Blade Pro 17 2020 4k 120hz Laptop has a big problem that I DO NOT PAY for and that I am paying for.
I will begin to see the issue of warranty or return.
All this is really an unfortunate situation.
I was so excited to have a premium device with these components, but the reality that it was shown that it is not.
Sorry Brothers.
@raging20 Just tried on a 17" 2020 4k 120hz model and was not successful. I confirmed bios and windows were updated to the latest, then tried to update the graphics driver...and black screen.
Today's new driver (471.11) seems to be working ok on my 2020 17" 120hz.
Thanks for the reply. I will try and confirm

NEW DRIVER (version: 471.11) WORKING ON 2020 17" 4k 120hz!!! Just to confirm my post earlier, after installing all of the Windows updates (that i've been pausing for almost the whole past year), then installing the new driver off of Geforce Experience, and making few small tweaks...my Razer is finally where it's suppose to be.

Well, at least for now. I should mention that I had my laptop plugged into my TV (hdmi) during the whole process in case my screen went black. It did blackout after installing the Windows updates (as that was normally what would happen after updating), hence the hdmi to my TV.

Anyway, after installing the new driver off GeForce, i was able to unplug the hdmi and the screen STAYED ON!!! However, after installation i had to go into my display settings and drop the "scale and layout" down to 200% bc my screen looked a little clunky. Windows recommends 250% but i think it looks WAY better at 200%, to each their own tho.

Some BAD news tho, when trying to drop the resolution to 1080p, my screen went BLACK again. I had to reconnect it to my tv (via hdmi) in order to revert back to 2160. I tried dropping the resolution again to 1440 and that seemed to work just fine but for whatever reason, 1080 blacks my screen out.

And lastly, after looking over my settings on Nvidia's Control Panel, i noticed my refresh rate was set at 60hz. I was able to change it to back 120hz no problem. This could've been bc i had my laptop plugged into my TV but idk. Just thought i'd mention it.

That's all i got. Hope this helps somebody. I'll update if i find any more issues.

UPDATE: Screen stays BLACK when trying to wake it up. And I have to plug in my hdmi to get the screen on when rebooting. I'm able to unplug afterward and the screen stays on but i dont wanna have to keep doing it like that.
Razer blade 17 Pro Late 2019, 4k 120hz, 2080 Max-Q, Bios 1.04, dedicated gpu @ 120hz
Windows build 19042.685 with windows experience pack 120.2212.551.0

All Nvidia drivers after 452.06 have this black screen from resume from sleep or hibernation issue, and the issue even happens with some resolution changes when games switch to 1440p.

The only fix I've had is either using an external monitor (not practical I use this laptop for business too and used to travel with it a lot and will again when things open up again). or to revert back to an older driver or use Optimus at 60hz refresh rate. None of these fixes are ok by me
Tried installing 471.41 vie GE from 466.77, but it always gave me an error. Manual download and install did work. Driver seems stable for me so far.

For me, RBP 17 early 2021 4k 120hz 3080.
471.41 drivers and 471.11 goes balckscreen when i switch perf mode to balanced mode in dgpu. Only after 15-30min of playing.
I've rollback to 466,77, more stable version but sometimes my screen stay black after sleep...
i'm exhausted with these issues.. I purchase my RBP on january 2021 and it still not fix.. for a 4000€ laptop it's a shame...
Finally took the plunge and reset to factory on my R209-0329X. Black screen from the outset on dedicated GPU - only updates were windows security updates. now going to try new nvidia drivers for giggles since this whole thing is beyond a joke.
