So, I've gone through the trouble shooting emails with Razer re: my Razer Blade 17 Pro 2020, 4K120, 2080S, Bios 1.06, Dedicated GPU 120 Hz and they've told me I need to send it in. My question is - is it worth the hassle of doing all of this, being without a laptop for who knows how long - when it seems we ALL have this black screen problem where we can't update GPU drivers? Honestly, if I go through this then get back the exact same machine (or someone elses refurb) and still have the same issues, I'm not going to be very happy. Also, my return window might be closed to get my money back.

I'm really struggling with this decision. Do I just cut ties and return it, or do I wait it out and hope I get the laptop I THOUGH I was paying 5k for? :slightly_sad:

My suggestion would be to return the product while you still are able. If the item does not bring you joy, there are plenty of alternatives available during this PC gaming renaissance market. Also, it may be worth considering looking into an nVidia 3000-series powered device after you complete the return, should you choose to do so.

Unless you can get a refund, which if I understand corrrectly you can't. Sending the laptop in won't fix the black screen issue..... UNLESS and this is a very very tedius process but if you can pull it of, it technically fixes many problems.

1) Have them reset the BIOS to the original 1.0 BIOS
2) Install an older version of Windows prior to version 2004
3) Never upgrade NVIDIA drivers past the original it shipped with

Essentially, this laptop a an OP BEAST when it first shipped, at times rivaling the Alienware Area 51 in performance, however RAZER crippled it significantly with the upgraded BIOS they posted to fix the black screen. I used to get around 23,000 in firestrike with BIOS 1.0, now Iam lucky to get 19,000.

There were issues with that driver. They've already released a new one, 460.89. (issues with certain games etc)

Hi @Gauner123! Is your laptop on BIOS 1.06 and NVIDIA graphics driver 460.89 version? If yes, how's your display's behavior?

Hey everyone! I am working with our Support Team and devs at the moment. Please continue posting any progress of your laptop here.

La página de NVIDIA tiene todas las versiones anteriores. Conectas la pantalla y bajas la versión previa que si funciona y la instalas.

Hi, I have the Razer blade Pro 17 2020 4k 120hz.
I also have the black screen problem.
Yesterday I installed BIOS 1.06 and I installed the NVIDIA 460.89 drivers, until everything installed well, but I am still in Optimus Mode 60 Hz.
Do you recommend that I try to switch to a dedicated 120 Hz card?
Because every time I do it the black screen returns.

I'm still on version 2004. I try to avoid the latest Windows updates as long as I can due to just the inherent issues with those.

This kind of supports my theory that right now win 10 2004 makes a difference. But still not sure

Since the last updates, precisely of the 457.30 drivers, the fan of my Razer Blade pro 17 2020 4k 120 Hz. The fans do not stop working, without applications or programs open and it also even has a RAM consumption of more than 40%.
Does someone know how to fix it and tell me.
Look in your Synapse Software System->Performance and check if the fans are set to auto. Sometimes it set itself to manual and the fans are running permanently at the specified speed.

I just nuked my drive and installed win 10 2004 and I can boot into windows when set to dedicated gpu only and it works . However if I change to 120hz the screen goes blank.

At least I have dedicated gpu back but I want 120hz since I spent the ungodly about for this screen to run that.

Really wish someone from razer would explain

Guys, I haven't personally had any issues as of late, I am on BIOS 1.6 with the latest NVIDIA drivers and the latest Windows updates. I am on GPU only mode and on 120hz.

However, this is not becasue of anything RAZER did to fix the problem because as is evident, everyone is experiencing issues one way ot another.

So how did I fix the problem of the screen going black when in Hybernation mode? EASY.. just dont let you laptop to EVER go into hybernation mode. I am not sure exactly step by step how I did this but if you mess around deeply with POWER SETTINGS there is a way to prevent Hybernation from ever kicking in. I am sure this affects my battery life in some way, now don't get me wrong I can still put the laptop in SLEEP mode but remember these are two different power settings however I try not to use Sleep if I can avoid it, I just turn OFF the laptop when I don't use it.

I encourage you guys to try this out and look into how to AVOID HYBERNATION as it seems to be an issue that affects other laptops and or PC's having problems in hybernation.

DISCLAIMER; IT COULD BE THAT I AM TOTALLY LUCKY AND THAT THAT THERE ARE OTHER REASONS WHY MY LAPTOP IS WORKING, HOWEVER THIS COULD WORK FOR YOU.

Hope this info helps and I hope Razer comes up with a permanent solution, instead of leaving us out to dry like they have been so far. I still hold hope that they will BRING BACK UNDERVOLTING!! with a future BIOS.

Good Luck!

I'm 2 days away from my return window for this. I guess if I don't get a resolution from them then I'm just going to return the laptop.

It didn't work.
Black screen returns the moment you switch to dedicated GPU 120hz.

success!!! So i figured out how to get it working on my razer blade 15! Now I'm about to try it on my Razer Pro 17. But these are the steps I took:
1. Use DDU to remove the drivers and make sure you tick the box that stops windows update or windows to auto search the drivers and remove the DCH control panel needs to be ticked as well.
2. Reboot and when back in download the geforce experience app from the nvidia site it iis the one called automatic driver update with the download now beneath it.
3. Once the nvidia experience app is installed then it will automatically download the latest drivers and I chose express install and now it is working on my blade 15!

Update: same steps didn't work on my blade pro 17 2020....

I have Bios 1.06, updated windows, Nvidia 460.89 Drivers.
But I am at Optimus Mode 60 Hz.
At the time of Switching to dedicated GPU 120 Hz after reboot the screen turned Black again.

Tienes que entrar en Advanced Power Settings y apagar todas las opciones de conservar energia, una por una, son muchas. Intentalo..

Hey folks, this is being looked at. I don't know specifics and there are no details to be announced, but this is being investigated. Thank you for your patience.

Well won't be having this problem anymore as I am on my way to the store to return it. Shame because it's a really well built machine but customer service saying it's on Microsoft now since I updated to windows 10 pro. You have lost me.

My first work around was just to disable the autmatic hibernation. I could work at the cost of the lost of energy saving. But it is no solution for just closing the cover were the hibernation could not be disabled.

Can't update it and tech support has no clue how to get this fixed. It is going to be escalated. Let's see how long it takes to get this resolved.

Same issue here
Yep. This issue is real.
I own the 2020 Pro 17 4K 120hz and the drivers haven't updated since 4/15/20
I also tried to update directly through NVIDIA but also got a black screen and had to revert to older drivers through Windows Recovery.
Given that this is a 4000$ laptop, one would hope RAZER will get on this ASAP.
Thanks
Look at this response time, wish Razer would be that fast :big_grin_:

So, you could close your cover, the laptop goes into sleep mode without hibernation, preserves energy and you could continue later as nothing happened in between? That would be really worth a shot then.

I'm in the same boat. I got the new drivers to install but ended up with a black screen. A quick trip into recovery mode solved that issue. Hoping Razer solves this ASAP!
