Convince me to switch to Razer

  1. Hi all. Name's Alexei. I am thinking about switching to Razer for my input devices. I have a desktop PC that I use to play video games (Assassin's Creed series, Far Cry, Diablo 3) and I also do quite a bit of Office-type work. I've used a Logitech Illuminated Keyboard and Logitech G500 mouse for the past 7 years and I feel like it's time to switch to something new, especially because the keyboard is starting to go. I've been eyeing Razer mice and keyboards, as well as Tartarus for playing video games and need some advice. The devices I'm considering are: DeathStalker for keyboard, Taipan for mouse, and Tartarus for gaming. I was a bit bummed that BlackWidow Tournament Edition does not have backlit keys, as I kinda liked that keyboard. I am also a bit concerned about the green color scheme, as my desktop has blue lights (but I keep it under the desk, so maybe it's okay, see my setup below). I was just wondering what everyone thinks. Any comments on the products I'm interested in? Any other recommendations?

I would not go with the deathstalker as your first razer keyboard. The UI software is a bit buggy and it is a membrane keyboard and not as durable as the black widow. The black widow is the far superior keyboard.

Razer vs logitech... this is coming from a fan of logitechs stuff. ive had many of their keyboards, mice and speakers.
#1- Razer construction is MUCH better
#2-Razer has a unifying style so all their stuff matches a look logitech does not
#3-Logitech takes FOREVER to jump on tech trends...i.e. almost a decade late to the mechanical parade and the effort was badly fumbled.
#4- Logitech is a peripherals company NOT a gaming company. It is evident in everything they do. Their products are not made for or by gamers.
#5-Community.... logitech does not have one... period.

Black widow is a much better choice, this is coming from an owner of a black widow and deathstalker. I got the bw ultimate classic, which is blue. Green isn't the only color.

I owned a deathstalker and it is a wonderful IDEA. The following things would need to change for me to think about spending that much on a keyboard again.
    #1-Mechanical keys or no deal
#2-MUCH stiffer back plate. the keybaord actually flexes quit a bit
#3-An on board processor with memory. The UI is simply too laggy and the hardware to weak to run the software.. I love the idea i REALLY do its just the hardware isnt up to the task of driving it.

Granted the cost of addressing those would make it s 400.00 something keyboard.... but you wanna know what? i would pay it in a heartbeat as the deathstalker concept is a VERY appealing one.

I would also like if razer made a right side game pad that was JUST the switch blade UI that would be very cool.
What i mean is this is my gaming control scheme

    Monitor
Orb Weaver game pad Keyboard Oroboros Mouse

Stinky Mechanical 4 switch footpad (on floor)
Actually maybe not a game pad maybe something that goes in front of your keyboard and below the monitor...

  5. Hello

About the colours Razer has launched a new series of items that has Croma then you can choose which colour you want the device to be so it suits your blue colours.

Are you asking a question or informing him?
Yes the chroma series lets you customize the colors of everything. I see the pic is of the starcraft series. Ive heard not great things about the quality of that series vs razers traditional offerings, are they true?

I am jealous of your upload speed and ping
My download is 37 mb/s but my upload is only 3 mb/s and ping is steady at 8-10.. So i envy your upload.

  8. Thanks! I will check it out.

  9. Thanks for your insightful replies. I am not sure I understand the issue of lag on DeathStalker. I am interested in the basic one, not the ultimate, so why would it lag? I am not 100% sold on the aesthetics of BlackWidow, it looks a bit old-fashioned to me compared to DeathStalker, for example. I guess I should walk over to BestBuy and check it out in person.

  10. What is the difference between Ultimate and Ultimate Stealth for BlackWidow keyboards?

Quality + Durability ...needless to say more , my Nostromo/Naga been under 6-12h game time daily for the past 3 years.
I sometimes wish they broke so i can get the new versions :slightly_sad:

  12. What are the advantages of using something like Nostromo over regular keyboard? Does it take some time getting used to?

  13. I see in your signature that you mention the Corsair K70 keyboard? How does that compare to BlackWidow line of keyboards?

Yea took me like 2 days to get used to it but once u do , u`ll only use the keyboard to chat.
It`s amazing , if u play long hours MMORPGs u know how u need a lot of binds easy at hand for macros/special focus binds and need to have an easy and relaxing way of keeping your hand on the table , with the keyboard u always need to either drag it down or move it around.
At first it might feel weird if u never used a keypad but after a bit of practice u`ll be addicted to it.

Ok now youve got me in a sensitive spot. I LOVE razer i have owned 19 of their products. But the K70 is for the moment the superior keyboard. This coming from a guy who has owned 5 black widows and 3 other razer keyboards. Here is why

#1- Thick aluminum cover shroud is awesome and built like a tank.
#2- Keys are brighter (a minus for some people)
#3-A PALM REST>.. this is the sole reason i initially bought the K70, It is textured amazingly and offers the perfect support angle.
#4- Raised keys. Many do not like this but after a while i really like the raised keys
#5-Textured keys. Comes with WASD and 1-6 in alternate color textured keys... its a nice touch. Key puller.. another nice touch.
#6-Swappable firmware profiles via a hard switch for when a firmware update goes awry.

The ORB weave is an AMAZING device. COMPLETLY replaced my keyboard for anything but typing.

  18. I just looked up Corsair K70 and stumbled upon K65 RGB and I think I can pretty much end my search for a keyboard - I love that little thing. I also like having a palm rest on a keyboard, so Corsair might just take the cake on this one.

I recommend the Blackwidow Classic edition, same latest green switches except only blue colour and cheaper than Chroma if you're not interested in muti-coloured backlight. I think the Taipan is already an excellent mouse for work/gaming. I haven't tried Tartarus so i can't comment on that. Hope it helps! :D

The razer fan in me hates myself but the k70/k65 is the superior offering at the moment. Corsair made a LOT of good choices on their keyboards.
