I'm currently trying to decide whether to get a 1060 + a PG248Q or a 1080 and use it with my VC239H. For the price of the 1080, I'd actually be able to purchase the 1060 and PG248Q. I'm not sure though if the difference between my current monitor and the PG248Q (being a TN panel) is noticeable since the VC239H isn't a high-end IPS monitor. Aside from gaming, I'll be using the monitor for watching movies and light photo editing.

I am thinking of a gpu and lcd upgrade too (well I would if I had cash).
Anyway, I'm thinking about upgrades this way - since I have an ok card right now, a GPU upgrade would only be worth it, if I also go for a 4k resolution.

Either way, if you buy a gpu and/or screen, I would recommend waiting for AMD HBM2 release. It should be more powerful than the unreleased 1080 TI, yet the price tag should come around the regular 1080. And if you are a green team fan, the AMD release maybe makes the 10xx prices drop.

I would say hold off on upgrading your monitor atm. Prices should drop sometime in 2017 so if you can wait that long, might just be worth it.
