I just would like to know people's preference, whether you use a mechanical or a membrane keyboard, and also why? For me, personally I use mechanical keyboards, because I love that clicky sound and being able to know that when I press a key, it actually registers.

I am all for mechanical keyboards. I love the sound and tactile feel when the keys are depressed. Since I've switch to all mechanical keyboards, I have had a hard time going back to membrane keyboards. Every desktop I use at home and at work have mechanical keyboards.

Personally, membrane keyboards never felt right for me. It's a frustrating keyboard to use especially when gaming because they're so sensitive.

Also, I believe that mechanical keyboards last longer and they're more reliable than anything you'll get out of a membrane keyboard.

I love that mechanical feeling, clicky clicky tak POP. There's also some many options to choose from MX switches Red, Black, Green, Blue, Brown, Black, Clear, and etc. All with different feelings. So you can mechanicals perfect to your liking. just so amazing.

Loving both mechanical and membrane. I'd say mechanical keyboard for gaming while membrane suited for typing and works.

as jj1216 stated above, I agree that mechanical keyboards are great for gaming but I do like membrane keyboards namely for productivity suites.

I'm using membrane because I've gamed on a laptop for years...may switch to mechanical some time in the future...
  12. The moment I first typed on the original BlackWidow Ultimate and the Cherry blues, I knew there was turning back. I've now got three BlackWidow variants (two originals and a Chroma) on various computers in my house, and unless there is no other option (like the wireless keyboard/trackball unit I have for my HTPC, or a laptop) you won't find me using anything but mechanical switches.

Once you go "clack" you never go back.

I also prefer mechanical over membrane, however i once tested the Deathstalker and it also was a pretty good keyboard.
Maybe i´ll get that one in the future for my Razer collection^^

Mechanical keyboards are definitely my favorite for gaming. I have a couple older membrane keyboards and I noticed it much easier to take them apart and clean. Screws are easy to access and not hidden like the black widow. I'm one of those people guilty of snacking while gaming so gotta do extra cleaning around my peripherals:wink_:

A few years ago, I was trying to choose between the razer deathstalker and razer blackwidow. I was attracted to the deathstalker at first because of its lower price. The membrane keyboard took too much force to do a long press imo. The blackwidow was perfect for me. Everything about it felt just right and I get to annoy everyone in my house with the clicking sounds. :cool_:

When you are used to using mechanical, no membrane keyboard can sastify the need of the feeling when you push down the button as well as the sound of the tactile.
  18. Nowadays there is the option. It's cheating but look at the Corsair Buldog. Yeah, you're still messing with wires and all that, but, its a step in the right direction. Also look up Couchmaster if you still want mechanical in HTPC and living room. Same as Laptop with MSI's mechanical keyboard mix. While it's still big laptop, also going in right direction.

And indeed. Once you go 'clack'. Took the words right out of my mouth.

I don't think I could live without the clicky keys in my life. I hate all mac keyboards, they're all bad, and everything else just seems better.
  20. I've seen those options, but for an HTPC or a laptop, the mechanical options are simply too large at this point. I never game, nor do large amounts of data entry on a laptop, or my HTPC, so membranes are fine for those purposes. I have a nice little IOGear keyboard/trackball combo for the HTPC that actually works really well for that purpose, though if Razer ever releases the Turret, I will most likely replace the IOGear with that.
