?

Is this stupid?

  1. Yes, expecting too much from third party hardware.

    Hey All,

First time poster here so get ready for a big block of text..

I've been looking at putting together a Razer-based system for audio production with Pro Tools 12 Native and am curious to see if anyone here has had success using an external PCIe enclosure to add support for a Firewire audio interface.

I reached out to Razer support and it looks like their Core system is only meant for GPU's so I did some digging and found the Akitio Node Lite TB3 Expansion unit. It looks like it should allow me to add the PCIe slot I'll need for the Firewire card and get me a display port out to connect to an external monitor as well as an extra TB3 slot for an external SSD with my sample libraries on it.

The goal is to have one cable for the following:
    -Power for laptop
-Firewire PCIe card for audio interface
-Display Port out for external monitor
    -External TB3 SSD

I'll be using the Razer Blade 13 as the core system. Is this too good to be true?

    1. That was not a "big block of text" :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

    2. I've checked the specs real quick and noticed the followings :
    - PCIe (x16) slot provides a maximum of 25W : so you have to make sure that your PCIe card won't need more than that
    - I didn't see any mention for the power it can deliver for charging a computer. Can it charge a computer at all?
