fresh install of ubuntu 14.04, and have not touch the kernel

You're going to have to update the kernel to at least 4.2. Once you do that, reboot. Then run the script as root, and reboot again.

Let me know if you have any questions updating the kernel

thanks, do you know which kernel to download? i know there are tons of them.
sucks you have to download them on a next pc and then dump it on your linux.

whoops, thought you had a usb to ethernet adapter. Try:
    http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-pp....4.2-040402_4.4.2-040402.201602171633_all.deb
    http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-pp...2-generic_4.4.2-040402.201602171633_amd64.deb
    and
    http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-pp...2-generic_4.4.2-040402.201602171633_amd64.deb

move them to your stealth in a new folder, and then cd to that folder and
    sudo dpkg -i *.deb

then restart your computer and pick the new 4.4.2 kernel in your grub menu before ubuntu boots. This will also fix your trackpad

    Spoilty likes this.

Great, will be doing that tonight.

    Thank you.

  6. I'm experiencing 1-3 hard freezes a day, and they seem to occur a bit more frequently when operating on battery power. Would be thrilled if anyone has an idea as to what could be going on.

Here's my sylog during the most recent freeze (several minutes ago):
(don't know what the control characters are about, but you can see from the timestamps when I gave up and hard-rebooted).

smevawala, I tried to use that kernel, but it does not work. it crashes and go into command prompt.

Did you let the computer go inactive?
because if you did, my screen usually turns black like its going to sleep and the laptop cannot wake up after that. I usually have to hard reboot it.

A bit of off topic but for work I chose Ubuntu in Virtual box. No hardware problems and no repartitioning on a tiny 128gb drive.

Hmm ok. Sorry, I really dont have experience updating a kernel without internet. I just used a usb ethernet adapter. What kernel are you running now again? Would you be open to installing a newer version of ubuntu? the 16.04 beta seems pretty stable.

ok i guess i will get a usb adapter.
is it going to be the same files as above to change the kernel?

    Thanks

Since it didn't work for you, probably not. Idk if its a safe kernel update from 3.13 to 4.2. Ubuntu 14.04 is pretty old. Without knowing the issues of the crash, I can't really help debug that. Maybe its similar to this issue: https://www.reddit.com/r/razer/comments/447vrn/razer_blade_stealth_linux/czof78y
I do know 15.10 works great.

well i did some searching and went thru some with trial and error. i got one in 4.3 and it works. to get back the files, i have no idea which website i got it from hahaha
    dumb me

i tried 4.2 but i cannot change the resolution of the screen.
4.3 works, but i see some tearing in the graphics which is driver issue not the hardware. also touchscreen works :)
went back to 3.13 and everything works fine except the drivers for the touchpad and the wifi.

just read the reddit and notice that Skylake support landed in 4.3. so 4.2 will not work that great :slightly_sad:
and that's why i had the resolution problem.

  13. In this case, I was using the machine when it froze. I have also had to disable sleep on this machine since it often enters "sleep loops" which can only be resolved with a restart, but I believe this to be an unrelated issue.

Some (me as well) experience freezes on Windows as well. Usually when it is idle.

Im currently using 4.2 on my stealth. Maybe skylake support was improved with 4.3 but it still works with 4.2. I couldnt get 4.3 or 4.4 to work with linux mint 17.3 for some reason. Hopefully linux mint 18 will work.

Do you know what the equivalent to that is in Ubuntu? I'm a linux noob, and I can't figure out how to get the Intel driver installed on my ubuntu distro. I'm on 16.04 so the Intel installer won't do it automatically.

  18. I just tried 16.04 and it seems to install it just fine. Here is my log:

    $ egrep -i " connected|card detect|primary dev|Setting driver" /var/log/Xorg.0.log
    [ 12.560] (II) intel(0): Using Kernel Mode Setting driver: i915_bpo, version 1.6.0 20160229
Do you see something different when you run the egrep?

Looks like there is a firmware update out now that adds support for the Core. Unfortunately isn't an EXE that doesn't run on linux (not even with wine for my efforts).

Anyone know if we have access to the raw firmware files so we can update from the bios? Perhaps someone on windows can install the updater and upload the firmware files to somewhere?

Anyone know if this will update the microcode? We need these updates so we can use all of our power states (see http://mjg59.dreamwidth.org/41713.html?thread=1635825#cmt1635825)

I copied board.bin to the correct location (path /lib/firmware/ath10k/QCA6174/hw3.0 already existed), it does nothing, I unplug my USB wifi dongle, reboot etc, and the wifi simply will not start.

I'm running Mint 18 I also tried updating to the latest risky kernel 4.4.0-28.47, no dice
