    Hi all,

I'm probably going to be buying a new laptop soon and I have been heavily leaning towards the RB 14 UHD. But in looking at other laptops for comparison I came across the just updated Dell Inspiron 7000 Gaming PC.

Comparing the specs they seem pretty close to each other but the Dell is way cheaper. Has anyone else had a chance to look at the Dell? What are your thoughts on it in comparison to the Blade?

Specs wise its similar. However its a 15.6” laptop and going to be significantly bigger / heavier / bulkier.

It all comes down to how much you’re going to be moving the laptop around and how often if the extra size / weight is going to become too much of a hassle or if its something you can live with.

Just by having a quick look its going to be about 6cm thicker and 0.9kg heavier. This means the Blade is 3/4 of the thickness and 2/3 the weight of the Dell

The Dell you linked to has the GTX 1060 Max-Q. Weaker than the standard laptop 1060.

Any gaming 15.6" laptop is going to be cheaper then the Razer Blade. This size laptop you'll find better specs for cheaper because you're buying a 15.6" laptop and as others have said you're also getting the added bulk and 'gamer' style with it.

If you want to find true comparisons for the Blade look at other 14" laptops and when you do make sure you keep your eye on the GPU. I was in the market for a 14" laptop a few months ago, ended up with the Blade and couldn't be happier.

Could you share what other 14" laptops are available? The only other one I've seen is the Gigabyte Aero 14.

What made you choose the Blade as opposed to the other 14 inchers?

I think you know my reason choosing the Blade;)

In this screen size Lenovo has a few, was looking at the Yoga and another model they have but it had integrated graphic cards and in some cases the CPU was only dual core instead of quad without the option to upgrade it.

I found an Asus that had the same thin look and feel but the GPU was the 940 MX 2GB. And while I may not play the most hardware intensive games (mostly MMORPGs and turn based strategy like Civ V), that card would barely be able to handle what I wanted to do.

The Gigabyte Aero 14 was on my list and I spent several days reading reviews on both before making my decision. I really don't have anything negative to say about the Aero, I just went with the Blade and have been very pleased with it.

Also want to add that I use my Blade for work and home. We have a 15.6" Dell in the office that is used mainly for trade shows and what not, and when I put my Blade side by side the Dell looks clunky in comparison and is a lot heavier while my Blade has far superior specs. To be fair, the Dell was a Best Buy special that wasn't bought for it's portability or anything along those lines. But still it's a 15.6" typical size laptop to compare to mine and I am so happy I went with mine.

Put on a Dbrand skin and it's looks very nice (while still professional for office use).

Wise decision , Aero 14 has no TB3 for better future proof but has a decent battery life, other things, they seem put cheaper hardware like trackpad etc on it for lowering the price. Other options above i think have no TB3, maybe on yoga but with only 2 lanes, and UCPU. Maybe for now 940MX good for you but for future proof it will be nice to have better one and TB3 with 4 Lanes (PCIEe3x 4)...and chroma keyboard;)

I use a Dell 34" UltraWide (3440x1440) Monitor at home and having TB3 coupled with a more powerful GPU totally won me over.

I mean, how could you not like this? :big_grin_:

Sitting on my desk at work, at home I use a cooler for it but use it more for the fact that it props it up off the desk.

Yes that is my dream setting, eGPU enclosure with more powerful GPU, but atm GTX1060 is good enough for running my games.

I have the 2016 970M Blade and I game at that resolution on the 970 just fine.

Very good point on the TB3 port.

I would definitely prefer a 14 inch laptop and the Aero and Blade are my top two right now. I'm trying to hold out for the next blade refresh. Hopefully the Aero will have been updated again by then and I will be able to make my decision.

If price is a consideration then you could always wait for the release of the new Blade and then pick up a 2016 version on the cheap.

That's what I ended up doing, the 2016 1060M came out so the price dropped on the 2016 970M versions and that's when I bought - for the price that they dropped to there was no way I couldn't have gotten it.

I wish I could do that but I'm that type that has to have the latest and greatest when I make my purchase. If they had had the 4K RB available when they announced the 2017 update I would already be an owner. But since they didn't (and waited 6 months to release it) now I feel like I have to wait for the refresh.

Ahh, yeah I'm pretty much the opposite, I actually look for the last gen hardware to get the good deals as stores are pushing the latest and greatest out to customers. After rebates I got my Blade for less then a grand, couldn't pass it up at that price. I upgraded the HD to the Samsung 960 Evo 500GB (as the biggest thing lacking was the 256GB drive) and I'm very happy.
