  1. Does anyone use the Steam trading cards system? Do you find it better to work for badges or sell the cards and try to make extra game money? Thanks.

I always sold my cards, badges are just for profile levels right? Currently sitting on something like 10 euro's on steam from selling cards. Waiting for something to purchase.

  3. I have previously done the same but made cards from my favorite games into badges.

To sell cards you need to have spent money on steam correct?

  5. I don't know any other way you would get cards in the first place (they come in games or on the market) but I do not know if there is any specific rule against selling cards before spending money.

You can activate games from codes purchased off steam or from gifts. I myself had over 50 games before my first purchase. I believe you have to have an active purchase on your account tho to actually sell stuff on the market.

I have spend like 10€ to buy cards just to level up my steam account... Don't know if it was worth it but still. At least now I have a level 20 steam account :smile_:

I don't think people are busy trying to trade those kind of things with each other... It's not really that big of a 'thing'

Steam cards is a goldmine for steam.
People buy just some online "pictures" to level up.
They make a lot of money with it. :disappointed_relieved::disappointed_relieved:

  9. The developers too, they normally get half of the tax on market sales.

I checked, but could only find this:
    https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=3330-IAGK-7663
What features are unavailable to me?
    • Participating in the Steam Market
    • Gaining Steam Profile Levels (Locked to level 0) and Trading Cards
So you are not allowed to sell, but won't gain any trading cards anyway :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: So you wont have anything to sell

People actually spend money for that, although they do it differently. By buying/winning cheap games, getting cards, making badges. Rather than just buying cards. It is probably more work, but cheaper.
I know a few people but never understood why the steam level mattered so much.

Sell it steam community, some rare cards sell at higher price

I think steam level kind of matters. e.g. when you are trading with some people. They would trust you more when you have a higher level steam level because it indicates how long/how much effort you have put into your steam account. well at least that is what I think. It also makes your profile look way better and you can have more friends on steam :smile_:

I was a great trader in 2013 with cards and gifts, of $ 20 made more than $ 1,000...
Now it is very difficult, but you can sell cards expensive if you do not hurry.
And then buy them back much cheaper... :D

I've earned a ton of Steam cards - because my account is where we buy every game for our entire family. I make the purchases for myself and then purchases everything else as gifts for the family and send them via Steam. When you play a game (and qualify to earn the cards) you get three for free just by playing. So, my husband and youngest son also send me all the cards for games that I play and between the three of us I've been able to make a bunch of badges as well.

Personally, I rather like the badges. Just feels like the perfect completion to finishing a game, even more so if it's one where I earned 100% of the achievements/trophies in the game. That being said, my current Steam level is at 35.

I have made a couple of badges with the cards, really only for Kingdom: New Lands and the last Winter Sale/Steam Awards event. Other than that, so far, I just collect the cards... I should probably sell them for game money, but it'd only be pennies...
I kinda like the idea of badges tbh. But they really do nothing for you...

Well seeing it from an economics point of view. Leveling up gives you a higher chance for random card drops so I usually craft all the badges I have from games that I own. That usually gives me a lot of booster pack chances, and if those are for games I already have a max level at I sell those packs and make some money that I spent on cards back.

What do you mean random card drops? I didn't know a higher steam level gave you any better chances or extra cards

Well for level 0-10 you have lets say 10% chance to get a booster pack(pack of 3 cards) from either a game you own or a game you have crafted a badge for, this percentage increases every 10 levels. So for me at level 80 I have 8 times higher a chance of a booster pack dropping than someone with level 9.

You can find out more just by reading the FAQ for steam trading cards if you want to know the exact percentages of drops. But yeah I had invested around $30 or so into the steam level system but Im pretty sure I have got back around $15 or more just by selling some of the booster packs that get dropped to me.

I did this up until my current level (40 something) to grant me the additional friends invites i needed. I grabbed up the last like 10 levels i have just to be higher on my friends wife's steam account than he was (top friends on their profile is based off steam level). I did it because he's cute when he's angry, totally worth it.
