This is a good question. I asked the exact same question to Razer Support and they were not able to provide an answer (Case# 01517702).

In Synapse 3, please provide some kind of selector (checkbox, radio button, highlight, etc) to tag a Profile as a default profile. In other words, let's say I have 5 profiles; four of them are linked to games. One of them is not and is the profile I want to load when I am not playing a linked game. If one linked games is not running, I want that default, unlinked profile to load always. Call it a Windows profile or a default profile or whatever. There seems to be some loose concept of a default profile in Synapse 3, but in practice, it doesn't do anything or work as intended (at least not always).

The funny thing: this works just fine on my Mac. I just have a Default profile, which is the first one that loads up, and when I open particular softwares, the profiles associated with that software come alive automatically. Click outside the software window and it goes back to Default.

I don't really even notice anything with Synapse 3 in Windows, because the only reason I go to that side is to play Overwatch (yeah, @BrianRevy, I wish I was higher SR), so I just keep the Overwatch profile alive.

I have have this same frustration. I tried dummy .exe programs and even legit windows programs to use as a trigger to change profiles but to no avail. Definitely need a way to select a true default profile, otherwise I always have to manually switch all my profiles back just to do regular Windows tasks. If anyone out there has a similar method that seems to be working as a workaround, I'd love to know.

    Hello everyone,

Can anyone confirm if you mean device profile or lighting profile? Because those two things are separate in Synapse 3. Lighting profiles aren't tied to device profiles because it contains data for every Chroma device (because Chroma Studio is common).

The ability to link lighting profiles to games/apps will be added in the next patch.

I myself am referring to the regular key profiles. I have custom key maps for certain games and when I quit playing it does not go back to regular windows keystrokes. I actually got so fed up that I went back to Synapse 2, which is unfortunate since my Basilisk is unsupported.

    This is what we mean:
I bought a new game. I spent hours researching the key mapping that would be the most super duper across all my razer peripherals. I created profiles and linked them to the games.
I got tired, shut down my pc and took a nap.
I woke up and booted up my computer...

Which profile is going to load (I don't care about the colors)? How is this determined? Can you control or manipulate it? Profiles mapped to games seem to work (sometimes). Profiles not mapped to games...? I have no idea. Do you? Windows OS is not a game. What if I want to map copy/paste to mouse buttons 4 and 5 in windows when I am not playing a game?

I want my custom key mapping to work, it's really time consuming to setup. It feels totally random and no way to control it.

FYI...when you ask questions like really makes me angry. It makes me feel like Razer thinks everything is just working swimmingly and there are just a few standout grumpy jerks who complain on the forums. Do you even use this software???

Sometimes it starts at bootup. Sometimes not. Sometimes it just randomly crashes. Sometimes all my configuration just disappears. Sometimes when my system comes out of sleep, S3 doesn't wake up.

When you contact support, the corporate culture attitude is overwhelmingly "let's find out what this user is doing wrong, because Razer is flawless".

I saw a post you did the other day where you asked someone to PM you so you could get some log files to pass along to engineers. It made my eyes bleed. I had a ticket a few months back where they asked me to provide log files, which I did (you're welcome, because you should have tested and got this all working before you started selling hardware that depends on it). Do you know what happened? NOTHING. We exchanged emails for like a month, wasted hours of my time and willingness to try and help YOU, and in the end, nothing was changed or fixed, and the cherry on the top...I get an automated email saying we are so glad your issues have been resolved.

Does that help you understand a little better...?

I apologize if it came across like that. It's just that Chroma profiles not switching with games is an extremely common complain (something which we're addressing in the next patch). So, I was just trying to ensure if this was related to device profiles indeed. Now that it has been cleared up, I will follow up with the engineering team and see why Synapse isn't behaving in the expected way for some users.

This is the expected behavior :
    • Whatever profile you manually select in Synapse is the profile that will load up on startup and for all applications (that don't have a dedicated profile). This is your "default" profile, so to say.
    • If you bind a specific profile to a specific game, that profile will activate when the game is running and in foreground.
    • When you exit the game, your devices will go back to the "default" profile.
    • Alt-Tabbing should also switch the profile to whatever is linked to the foreground application. If the foreground application doesn't have a specific profile bound to it, it will go load up your "default" profile (the one you previously selected in first bullet point).

In that case, the user wasn't able to start Synapse at all, hence it wasn't possible for them to create a feedback ticket through the application itself and the only option was for me to manually collect logs to help look into their issue.

Rest assured, we are not releasing software with the knowledge that a certain feature doesn't work. However, we do understand that certain users experience issues not encountered in our test environment and we deeply appreciate the community for reporting them to us, so that we can work on a fix.

Thank you. Sorry, that was really harsh of me...but there are elements of disappointment and frustration that are sometimes difficult to restrain.

I've never been able to get a "linked" profile to activate. I just assumed it was a broken feature. I've owned the Naga Trinity for a month now.

Just now I tried linking a profile to Notepad.exe. The profile never activated.

This is the problem I'm currently having. While running a game, Overwatch for example, alt-tabbing doesn't switch back to the default keybinds. The only way to get it to switch back to the default is to close the game or open S3 and choose the default. Which I then have to switch back when I tab in. I'm using the Lancehead TE mouse.

Coming from S2 where this worked seamlessly with my Orochi, this is becoming frustrating for me.

After using my mouse for a while, I stumbled into a solution for profile switching back to the desktop one. The default profile that the device makes cannot be used as the desktop profile. I ended up duplicating my default profile for use as the desktop one and now every time I play a game and exit all profiles switch back and forth like they are supposed to. I still haven't found a solution for active window profile switching. Try it out guys and let me know if it works for you as well.
