I really recommend the Razer BlackWidow, it's fun to play with it. If you don't need the chroma edition i can recommend the Ulitmate (Stealth) Edition. Especially when you do recordings (Let's Plays, ...) the stealth Edition is much more quieter than the normal one or the chroma edition. But the chroma effect is nevertheless amazing and if you have the money and you live alone ore you are not annoyed by louder keys you should definetly go for it.

How loud is the normal blackwidow and how quiet is the blackwidow stealth...?

Hi there. You might need to do a little research about modern keyboards before making your decision.

The majority of gamers prefer mechanical to membrane, citing various advantages (whether true or not). It's actually interesting because there is no hard evidence that mechanical is better for gaming or typing, yet gamers favor it over membrane by a wide margin.

For mechanical keyboards, the most important thing is the type of switches installed under the keys. The preferences for mechanical switch is very diverse so this is something you will have to decide for yourself. If you're serious about this, something that might help you is a switch tester.

Here's the one I used to help determine my preference:
This is depends on how hard you type and the presence or absence of O-Rings.
Normal = Razer Green switches = similar to Cherry MX Blue.
Stealth = Razer Orange switches = similar to Cherry MX Brown.
Greens/Blues were made to be noisy - there's a plunger that makes an audible click when the key is depressed. So no matter what you do, they will be loud. O-ring enhanced Oranges/Browns are much quieter in comparison.

Personally I prefer Stealth with O-Rings. I used to have MX Blues on my BlackWidow Ultimate 2013, but eventually found them too heavy and obnoxiously loud. It bothers other people who can hear you typing too (co-inhabitants, video conference, voice chat, etc.) I guess things change when you become a professional.

I'll point you to some resources here on Insider that should help:

Mechanical Switches: POLL: Which mechanical switch type(s) do you prefer?

Mechanical v. Membrane: Mechanical or Membrane Keyboard?

Probably you should youtube it. The normal BW has a loud clicky sound and stealth has a softer clicky sound.

I have the blackwidow ultimate, so i recommend it, but i regret not getting chroma because it does get boring just having green with no lighting effects. So if getting the blackwidow, do get chroma.

If you decided to buy a new keyboard in the BlackWidow family, then there is something more to think of :
    1. full-size or TE : full-size for numbers, usb and audio port, TE for portable, more space for mouse.
    2. the macro keys : If u want them and u used to them then its ok no problem. But if u dont, then you can only choose either tournament edition or full size classic 2016 version.
    3. chroma or non chroma : well although like 99% people choose chroma, some of my friends still prefer the non-chroma version ...
    4. stealth or normal : well this is depends on the environment as well as your preference.
    Hope this help

    1. I'm definitely going full size, I need a numpad and wires of a headset get in my way going into the computer so the USB will be useful on the keyboard, and I really need an excuse to get a larger desk.
    2. Macro keys I've never had but I think I'd be able to make a use for them
    3. Totally chroma, love colour.
    4. This is the only thing I'm unsure upon, I think I might go stealth because I don't want to piss my family off too much :joy:

If you have the extra money to drop on the Chroma I would recommend it. But if you are short on cash the BlackWidow is just as good but not as costumizable.

Congrats on turning 15.:stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye_: Nice that your treating youself by making a big upgrade to mechanical keyboard and mouse. Personally I own the black widow chroma and Naga 2014. Both perform well and could recommend to anyone.

Thanks! I think I'm definitely going blackwidow stealth ( for the sanity of my family ) but still can't decide whether to go diamondback or deathadder for a mouse!
