As title says, I am wondering (and wishing it could be implemented in the near future) if we could have a referral system to get some extra zSilvers when introducing our friends to Razer Cortex, Arena or so on

What you guys think about? You like or dislike the idea?

I do think that a referral system would be a good idea. I'm sure it would go quite well actually! Though, they will have to have some precautions in place because I can see it being easy to abuse.
One person makes multiple emails/accounts and "refers" each one from their main account...
For myself though, from past experience with referral systems, I never have success with it which makes it feel unfair. And then there's people who have 100's or more of friends, fans, family, whoever else, that they get all the glory with it. Not to say they shouldn't, but again, feels unfair for myself, personally, because I don't have that.

If I'm not mistaken, I believe Razer has mentioned something about friends regarding zSilver, but nothing conclusive.

Yeah there is always people abusing of everything, that's why some precautions should surely be applied.. just like now (I won't put names in the table) but I know a lot of guys with multiple Cortex and Arena accounts just to take many rewards while we, normal people, are happy with the idea of having only one

I would definitely like the idea of a referral system. I always look for them whenever i play new game or get involved into any ecosystem. I think it is a great way to get more people and even an incentive to get friends to join.

There has to be however a way to avoid exploits, like has been mentioned before of people starting up multiple accounts. The work around i have for that is to have a higher threshold at which the referrer can claim their reward. Right now you can easily get 2000 points, just for starting a zVault account. Make the threshold 5000 or more, so that way if i get a friend a join, they would have to earn 5000 points until i get any reward. The reward itself shouldn't be too much so as to incentive gaming the system, i would say about few hundred per referal. This way it makes it harder for someone to just make multiple accounts, then again not worth going through the trouble yourself.

I think it is a good idea, especially considering Razer has tried referral systems in the past and awarded coupons to the razer store as rewards for them. It would be pretty easy to implement too, just add an extra box when someone is creating their Razer ID. I think it could definitely drive engagement with cortex. Unfortunately there is the possibility of people creating fake accounts to abuse the system, but most places with referral programs have the rewards set to redeem once the players hit milestones that generally requite a large time investment, so hopefully that will combat it somewhat.

Yes (additional zSilver booster)... and no:
I think, that referral system would open another "backdoors" for abusers.

Sadly.. I think that it would be too easy for those cheaters, to exploit.

I would love it personally, I have a few people I'm trying to make join xD
    So yeah..

But yeah the risk might be too high unless there is some security for it, so it can't be exploited...
(But where is it that I have seen a refral thing to razer?? I kinda think I have seen it somewhere?)

Staff have already said they are looking into this but not anytime soon. Forgive me I cannot get a source but it's in the forums somewhere

I don't really see a point in making multiple accounts (regarding people cheating the system for Rewards or zSilver) for a number of reasons.

    1) You can't combine (old Rewards system) codes when ordering from the Razer store online. So if somebody had a valid code for a free Razer DeathAdder Elite on one account, and a second one, from making 500 posts on a second account, they couldn't just get two free DAEs from a single purchase. A separate purchase would have to be made regardless. And really, if they took the time to contribute with non-spam posts on both accounts, is that cheating? Even if that person got into a conversation with themselves on the forums to try to boost post counts on both accounts, I would get in there and ask them to take it private, like I already do (and probably report them, like I already do . . . sometimes . . . if the conversation doesn't really stay relevant . . . and there is similar behaviour from the same people in other threads).

    2) You can't combine (zSilver) codes when ordering from the Razer store online, and can't give zSilver to another account (yet). If somebody earns enough zSilver to get a 20 USD discount on something, they can't use another 20 USD code on the same purchase. Having 2 accounts for zSilver accumulation gets you nothing. A person would actually gain zSilver at half-speed by trying to gain with 2 separate accounts.

    3) Yeah, I can only think of two for now.

I thought I read something recently that actually implied a Razer referral system, but I can't remember where. I'll edit if I find it.

Yeah some guys are saying the same, that it was posted somewhere but I couldn't find it either..
If you can find it please share the post with us :wink_:

Right. Well, here is at least one referral system that they have online. Just a quick google search did it for me.

The bad thing is that I can't remember if this was the referral system that I was thinking about. Some of the Rewards there do seem a bit old.

Yeah I found it right before you post it..
Any MOD around to tell us if this Referral Program is still valid? There is no date in the page

Ahh thought so, too bad it's not active.
Are there any plans for a new referral system, or updating the old one?
Or would there be too many complications due to the possible exploit or whatever I shall call it?

That..... is a good question. I would certainly like to see some kind of referral system put into place.

    Made me laugh so much!

Lets cross out fingers that someday it we will once again have a referral program, a secure one for that matter.

Im not really sure about this because as many people already said : its easy to abuse and I havent had a good experience with referral systems.
(but if Razer gives it a try its probably good ^^)
