As it is, it's a useless, overpriced gadget, it looks cool, and I wouldn't say no to having one, but I can't waste that much money for something like that. Also, wasting a usb slot just for a few leds, seriously ?
But hearing what other peoples said, since it need to be plugged, and there is a kind of base on the top, so you could make it a usb hub, and also make it charge your wireless mouse, so you never need to plug it again, since it's constantly charging.
With this price, and the fact that it does absolutely nothing but light, for now it's probably one of your most ridiculous products, I really like Razer, but please don't be like that, you can make great stuffs that explain the high price, you don't need to make overpriced useless crap that makes you looks like apple. You can be better, you have great and originals ideas usually, and we want things to stay like that, "for gamers by gamers" remember ? Now it's kind of turning into "for the hype" and I'd really like to avoid that.

ps : this looks more like an April's fools joke, than the hovering mouse.

The fact that peoples like it doesn't mean it's not useless. I like it too, I mean, I think it's a high quality mouse mat (never used anything else that the cheap ones you can find everywhere, so you wouldn't judge on that). So basically, it's just a mouse mat with leds that synch with chroma, it does nothing special, but still require to be plugged in. Ok, it's cool, but if you look at it objectively, it is useless.
And yes it's overpriced, just compare the price of this one with equivalent mat without light.
So yes, this is just an overpriced gadget, and instead of justifying the high price with high quality or great features (which is why I like Razer)... they justify it by "hooo, shiny, so hype", while, as other said, there was real potential behind it.

@NecroSyri By that reasoning, they should just scrap the entire chroma line since they don't really do "anything special" except they light up and change color.

The thing that you don't seem to understand is that the LED lights IS the special feature. How many high-grade RGB LED light up mouse pads can you name aside from the Firefly? None? thought so, and that's the point. It's a unique feature, and being unique gives you the privilege to command a higher price tag. Now whether you think that unique chroma feature is worth the extra $, that's up to you.

I will watch this one for now, as I already have a chroma mouse, keyboard and even a leviathan sound bar. Not sure I can justify this expense of a mouse pad. Looks pretty cool though....

I agree with some of the other comments. I have a mousemat with (strictly blue) ledlight, which comes with 4 additional usb ports! That was 15E. Would expect more uses for a powered mousemat of that price!

Looks amazing! As a suggestion, why not include an aditional usb port on the mat itself? That would be fantastic!:eek::eek::eek::eek:

I think Razer should work on integrating the Chroma concept into the Blade rather putting lights on a mouse pad

The razer firefly looks sooooooçooooo cool, perfect under a DeathAdder and between a BlackWidow and a Kraken 7.1 :D
