You have been able to do that for a few years already with some of the thick laptops like some MSI has. But I doubt you will ever be able to do it with the laptops as thin as the blade, because of how all the components are built into the motherboard already.

Sorry should have specified that I meant internally and for thin laptops such as blade

There are a lot of trade-offs to have a nice form factor like this one. You'll never be able to do that kind of swapping out and upgrading. You'll never get a swappable battery. You'll never have chips over 100W TDP like the GTX 1080.

But you will have a laptop that's not a chore to carry around, doesn't chain you to a socket, has no cheap glossy plastic coverings, and doesn't come riddled with tons of bloatware.

Of course... what I was trying to say previously is that what you have said might change in the future

I doubt it. The industry is moving in the other direction. We've advanced more rapidly on efficiency than we have in power over the past 10 years. Desktops are getting smaller. Smart phones are getting bigger. Laptops and tablets are converging. Cloud computing is growing. Slowly but surely we are losing options in favor of convenience. Eventually your smartphone will be able to do just about anything you want by connecting wirelessly to whatever you want to connect it to. I'd put more money on being able to do this with less laptops, not more in 5 years.

It will be a sad day indeed when my $2000 PC can't compete with online game streaming to a smartTV or whatever. My setup might be a little bit faster in many ways, but they will have paid $0 in additional hardware to do the same thing. And that is when the PC industry will die. It's already starting, but that's not going to stop me from having fun with it until the bitter end.

That's exactly question we are all waiting to have answered. It seems like every other company had announced, even EVGA. JUST Razer wants to drag it out.

I doubt they want to drag it out. They probably just want to fill all the orders for the old model before advertising the new one. Can't say I blame them, since these things always sell out anyway, so there's no big hurry on their part.

Yeah, I understand the business sense of not rushing to release an upgraded model while still having sufficient stock of the previous one. But as a consumer, dammit, I want the best and I want it now!

I was hoping to get a new Razer Blade with a Pascal card in it before the end of September so I could bring it to ESL One New York, but as I haven't bought the tickets yet I may just save my money, watch the stream, and wait to pick up a Blade when there's a sale. This would have been a big impulse buy for my birthday, though, so perhaps it's a good thing it's not available right now (for my bank account that is).

Yeah, after that retweet they might as well let the product page go live. But no, they want to wait until they do their dog and pony show for the press.

Pretty much. This means the development is complete and ready to meet costumers. The question is when will Razer let it happen.

Just checked the 970m store page it is not showing date anymore. 512GB model is even not available to order. It is certain that it will be officially announced on PAX west, but how long this one is going to delay. Probably a month or two. Don't put so much faith in it will arrive at you door in September.

Completely agree. I'll bet that the announcement comes by Sunday, but the actual date customers start receiving these is sometime in November.

Unless you catch the first wave. It'll probably roll out and sell out just like it always does.

What region are you looking at the store in? I just went to the store page and there as an "add to cart" option for both the 256 and 512 versions of the 970m blade.

Yeah if you catch the first wave you might be able to get it in september, but those who dont, will have to wait while its on backorder for a few months just like the last blade most likely. I sadly dont quite have enough money quite yet so even if they do announce and its available ill have to wait a few months :slightly_sad:
