Stealth owners priority ordering for Core? ;)

So I'm assuming that next week we're probably going to hear something about the Razer Core and preorders or ordering is open or something along that line since there's an announcement and they said release was Q1 and all that.

Will there be any sort of exclusive pre-order opening for existing Stealth owners? I'm going to assume not, but thought I'd throw it out there anyway.

We won't know until they announce at GDC, but I would highly doubt it. The Core currently only works with the RBS, so it's not like there's any point for a non-Stealth owner to buy one right now anyway.

True, there is not really a need of a priority ordering for Blade Stealth users as they will probably be the only ones buying them in the beginning

We don't really know that though at this point from the many questions about it working with XYZ laptop with a TB3 connector. I guess the point was for the early adopters of the laptop rather than those buying the laptop at the same time of the Core coming out.

Well, AMD is saying it works with their Xconnect system, so there may be a small amount of outside interest.

All I know is judging from past Razer releases, get your order in early!

I'm hoping we get first dibs on the pre-order. With the thunderbolt 3 connector anyone can use it, all they'd need to do is install the drivers the razer blade stealth uses. That's assuming it uses proprietary driver because both intel (who created thunderbolt) and AMD have external GPU support over TB3.

Not quite. Razer has mentioned multiple times that laptop hardware manufacturers still need to enable support in the BIOS settings. I highly doubt Dell/HP etc will do that...

Well, that would be pretty fair considering you would need to purchase the Razer Blade Stealth first.

    Would it? :confused_:

I must have missed that part or engadget just glossed over it. I doubt HP will ever enable it but if this bios setting is a generic Thunderbolt setting that needs to be enabled I could see Dell enabling it for their XPS and Alienware lines along with releasing their own type c graphics dock to replace the Alienware graphics amplifier.

Dell has said multiple times that their computers have the eGPU bios extensions.

Looking forward to buying the core to use with my XPS 13/15,

That is actually an excellent idea. They should also make a bundle with a bit of a discount on the core, with current stealth owners being able to get the discount also along with priority on delivery.

I know this will never happen, but just an idea.

That is good to know, I would have thought they would have been reluctant because of the competition with Alienware. Also gives a bit of options if the new Blade isn't that good.

Just because they have eGPU BIOS extensions doesn't mean they have the extensions that work with the Razer Core.

This will be a wait and see, we will know more when the thing actually ships. Cross-compatible computer components (alliteration special :) are fairly uncommon, with the exception of well-established standards. This thing is breaking new ground, we shall have to await developments.

Translation: I don't know, and I do know that others don't know as well.

Well, I'll be one of the first to try it-- as long as the core isn't delayed for 3 months for a SEA release like the stealth.

Hopefully Min also thinks that it is a rather good idea.

Looks like Min has listened about the discounts so we may see priority availability for current owners.

We will of course never know if he saw it here and liked it or he was already planning on doing it.
