I'm in the process of selling my Razer Blade 2017. I've wiped the disk using the F9 Recovery partition, but that took less than 10 minutes, so obviously all my data is still hidden on that drive. The laptop doesn't seem to be able to boot from a USB drive, which I was trying to use to wipe the disk, so what's the best way to securely wipe the hard drive?
Use a tool that overwrites every bit on the hard drive once or fill it with some generic data yourself. This will not ensure that someone can't use some tools and try to recover data, but it will make it much more difficult to do so.
Yeah, I'd like to - but those tools run off USB sticks, and I don't seem to be able to boot from the USB. The ISO I burned on to a bootable USB disk is available for selection on boot, but when I select it, nothing happens.
There is a tool built into windows that can wipe the clear space on your HD. Open a command prompt and type this: cipher /w:X Replace the X with the appropriate drive letter.
