My Razer Core Nightmare

This is a long story, so I understand if you don't want to read it.

I preordered my Razer Core and have recently got it for my Razer Blade Stealth. I was so excited to try it out, I had been sitting in my dorm room playing the same FIFA 13 career mode on the lowest settings and frankly I was sick of it. Here comes the first problem. After opening my box and placing it on my desk after months and months of waiting, I came to realize that the 6 pin power connectors were too short. So I went online, and got an extender. Finally, I plug my graphics card in, power the system on, and get to work. I followed the instructions on Razer's website multiple times, each time encountering failures and hiccups. Eventually, I felt like I adequately installed everything and my laptop was finally recognizing the core and my Geforce drivers said I had a 970 in (my graphics card). I start up FIFA 13 on recommended Geforce settings (just to test it out, see what it was like to have a crowd) and the gameplay was SLOOOOWWWWW. Like really bad. Not more than 15 frames per second and that's generous. So naturally I figured it was a lack of drivers, I had the same problem when I first built my desktop at home. Here is the thing though, the Geforce program continutously tells me there are no new updates. Whats worse is it sometimes fails to open, and now the Core continuously crashes my computer if I plug it in. At this point I am through, I am thinking of just sending it back and waiting till I get home to play any serious games after all this stress and aggravation. If anyone can give me any help it would be greatly appreciated. Otherwise, I'll just take my losses and send this damn thing back.

  2. Are you attempting to play the game on the Stealth's LCD, i.e. not hooked up to an external monitor? If you are playing on the Stealth's LCD is it the 3840x2160 "4K" version? A GTX 970 is going to seriously struggle at that resolution. What graphics settings are you using in game?

I also have a Stealth+Core but I'm using a 1070. I didn't have trouble setting it up. My only complaint so far is that I'm experiencing some HORRIBLE input lag. The Core seemed like a much better idea back in February. Today I just feel like it's kinda pointless. By the time you purchase a top of the line Stealth+Core+1060/1070/1080 you've spent more money than it would've cost to just purchase a Razer Blade with a 1060. The Blade with GTX 1060 is likely going to be significantly faster because it doesn't have to deal with an ULV CPU and the Thunderbolt 3 bottleneck. I just got my Core today but I seriously doubt I'm going to keep it.

Hey @ChadHawk, wanted to check in with you about this issue. I was wondering if you have reached out to our Support Team for some assistance with your Razer Core already?
