Apparently using 3 fingers is weird?

Discussion in 'Mice and Surfaces' started by Otircam01, Dec 24, 2016.

How do you hold your mouse?

  1. 2 fingers on top

  2. 3 fingers on top

Okay so i recently got a Razer Naga Chroma, love it but i noticed an ergonomic problem for me. I've always used 3 finger on top, pointer on M1, middle on scroll wheel, Ring on M2. The current razer naga was not designed around this grip, as you can easily tell from the ring finger rest/grove. Luckily its noticeably higher body compared to other mice has made the grove feel similar to my previous mice, albeit a little higher in the air. I feel like this problem was addressed back when the naga had 3 sides, back in like 2012. I would personally love a slimmer Naga, as the current ergonomics force my hand to feel like its either a centimeter higher since i cant fully rest my pinky down, or to stretch the pinky out further sideways.

As for now i think im going to get used to feeling like my hand is unnaturally high on my mouse.

DAAAAAAMN SON! Where'd you find that?

So you want an ambidextrous Naga?

Given the greater natural dexterity most people have with their index and middle finger I prefer using them for M1 and M2, using the middle finger on scroll seems rather wasted.

I knew that first joke was coming that's why i left the title vague lmao,

and i don't know i always prefer having a finger on every button possible, for speed and simultaneous actions i guess. It is also just naturally more comfortable.

I also use claw on controllers whenever possible and i know that for sure makes some of my friends cringe.

I guess it depends on what games you play, but when do you actually have to use M1 or M2 with the wheel simultaneously?

I have to agree with Overtask on this one. 2 on top feels more natural. 3 seems like you're trying too hard? Idk, I guess it depends from person to person. I just tried using 3 and I feel like I have less control over the mouse, but I can probably overcome that caveat with training. With that said, I do use 3 fingers total because I usually remap the thumb button to some in-game action, like melee.

Regardless, at the end of the day I'm pretty sure the mouse was designed to be used with 2 fingers on top. Imo, doing otherwise seems like you're fighting against the design, instead of working with it.

This reminds me of the thread about how to properly use WASD :expressionless:.
If you're comfortable, stick with it.

    Merry Christmas everyone :christmas_tree::santa::christmas_tree:!

Well i guess never strictly simultaneously but more so in fractions of a second in a shooter, for example use mouse for switch gun and scope in right away. I don't personally but i know some bind scroll wheel to jump for bunnyhopping.

I know it fights against the Naga's ergonomics specifically, but it's more comfortable and its faster for me.

3 Fingers. How else do you use middle scroll?

Clearly you pop off the top row and replace them with WASD(Q to W, W to A, E to S and R to D) that way you have all the buttons in one row

That way I can activate all 4 with a single finger, leaving my other 4 fingers free to do as they please! Anyone who doesn't understand why this is better is a peasant.

Wow, I would have never thought people use 3 fingers on top of their mouse.

    The More You Know

I mostly play FPS games and use 2 fingers on top of my mouse while the rest are for grip.

The more interessting question is: What kind of games do you play, so you'd have to use all 3 buttons at the same time?
    RTS and/or RPGs I guess?

I've never seen anyone using 3 fingers on top.

it seems so odd to me...but yet it does make sense haha if you have the scroll mapped to something you really use frequently. as long as you get enough grip on the side with your pinky for quick movements

My main shooter for a while was csgo, and tf2 before that, so quick weapon switching and alternative fire were important to me.

I also am still waiting on my new keyboard so up until that finally arrives, i've only had very low key rollover. And although using numbers to switch weapons reliably would be better, i physically don't have a keyboard that could do that without keypresses not registering.

And now as i've been playing overwatch i like assigning scroll wheel down as alternative modes of fire for certain abilities.

Same thing here, i have never seen anyone use 3 finger, i guess you can get used to it and it can be pretty useful.

Okay, so you use 3 fingers on top of your mouse and you think that might be weird? I use 1 finger... I always only have my index finger on top, the middle finger on the far edge, mostly on the side and all others on the side.
Sometimes I end up having 2 fingers, if I'm zoned out or something, but when I'm really concentrating on something that takes serious mouse precision, like photo/video editing, I usually end up with 1 finger to avoid accidental right clicks.

LOL that is CRAZY. I find it funny that people end up using mice and keyboards in so many different ways. I guess it's kind of like driving...some people drive with 2 feet.

I wouldn't say it's weird, everyone uses different things differently, as long as you get the same result what does it matter?
