Decided to order one of these and give it a go even though it does not have mechanical keys. I always loved the Belkin Nostromo back in the day and liked the Razer version and I guess this is the spiritual successor to that line so I'm excited to give this a go.

As for the Orbweaver,I've been an Orbweaver user for the last couple of years but I can't bring myself to order another one. My first Orbweaver's rubber palm rest came away from the plastic underneath and the adhesive always ended up over my hand and it was just terrible. The warranty replacement for that has had the same issue develop now but is sadly itself long out of warranty. I figured hey, I'll grab an Orbweaver Chroma as it's a newer model and figured all would be good. That Orbweaver arrived yesterday and as I take it out of the box and give it a look over what do I see? The damn palm rest at the bottom already has the rubber padding not even stuck down properly to the palm rest, brand spanking new out of the box! The return has already been organised, much to my disappointment.

Now I don't sit in a room where it is ridiculously hot all the time so that the adhesive material might melt a bit and come away, nor do I do anything weird with my hand that would mean there's a ton of friction or movement to make it come loose. Maybe I'm just that one unlucky anomaly when it comes to getting the same weird fault over and over again but I'm at the point now where I'm no long willing to be that unlucky. As far as I can see from the Tartarus V2 the palm rest is different so the same problem shouldn't exist and as long as the years of mechanical key love I've had for the Orbweaver don't make it so I can't love the Tartarus then I think I'll be happy with the switch.

Has anyone else had, or have heard of others having the same weird problem as me? I'm so disappointed in it as I'd love to keep using the Orbweaver but as I said I just can't keep putting up with the same issue over and over and over.

But hey at least I get to try a new toy now with the Tartarus so I can't wait for that to be delivered!

Installing mine now. I have the original belkin as well over 10 years ago. Haven't mmo'd without a gamepad like that since. Anyways, my 4 year old Orbweaver started having problems with the d-pad a about 2 weeks ago. I was trying to wait until maybe an Orbweave v2 was announced, but the d-pad finally quit so I ordered a Tartarus V2. Hoping it rocks!

My rubber palm thing came off my orbweaver too about a month after I bought it. i superglued it back on once and never had a problem again. I wouldn't buy another orbweaver now though since the tartarus v2 came out. If a orbweaver v2 came out, i might consider it tbh.

Interesting that you had the same issue man, nice to know it's not just me .I think the Tartarus will be a better fit for my hand anyway so looking forward to getting it.

I also play MMO's (though not so much recently), of be interested to hear how you like yours when you've used it a bit!

The damn palm rest... Don't even mention it, I hated this as much as I loved using my orbweaver. I don't think it's you, it definitely is a design fault. I'm not using the chroma as much as I used to use my first orbweaver, call it trauma, and it's quite sad. The concept and product itself isn't bad, this is the only part that they should really work on...
I always felt like the tartarus didn't have enough keys, not sure I would go for it, but it's always nice to have feedbacks.

I was an Orbweaver user for many years, to the point I was using it for every game and even for productivity. While I loved it with all my heart, that palm rest glue is crap, it started slowly sliding away till the glue got exposed and it made a mess, both on my hand and on the Orbweaver itself. I glued it back on with loctite superglue but I didn't place it perfectly and you could feel bumps from the glue underneath the palm rest after that. I shelved it around 1 year ago, the directional stick started giving me problems, often wouldn't register input and that drove me crazy.

I'm waiting for a v2 version because sure as hell I will not get that hell of a problematic gameboard a second time.

Exactly my issue with it and it making a mess. I was willing to give it another go figuring that the Chroma version would be a sort of V2 of it but when I saw the rubber coming away just out of the box I decided screw this I've been burned too many times now with it. I'll maybe reconsider with a true V2 version obit but for now I'm done with it.

  7. Yeah im also on my second Orbweaver from the Belkin, everything has been fine with both products except the palm rest, the new one is still holding up but the rubber just ended up stretching and the glue, the glue just got all over your hand. The only other problem i had with it was the Synapse software crashing during DOTA2 games and then failing to reload but thats more a synapse problem than a Orbweaver problem i guess.

I've been using the Orbweaver Chroma for a couple years now, I got it when it first released, and the rubber palm stuff hasn't come off just yet, but it is loosening and I have to use a fingernail to stuff the edge down into the plastic side each night before I play. Thing is, I just love my Orbweaver far too much to ever trade it in for the Tartarus. I won't downsize on the number of keys. I use mine to re-assign keys, not for macros and such, so I really do need all those keys available. However, like many of you I'm hoping there will be an Orbweaver V2 sometime in the future. :)

Get ready for random crashes in the middle of a serious gaming session. When it happens, (and it will), it will likely reset to default configuration/mapping, except, not all the way. lol, I have my toon walking backwards in circles, unable to stop until I tab out of game to End tasks every Synapes 3 including services, and restart. It is exactly the same with the Trinity. Synapes 3 is just a total trash. I know it is beta, but it is required for these new "Released" products. If Razer was upfront about Beta software for Released product is the only way to use them, I would be less upset. Now, another side issue, they have normal support for Beta software... Imagine how useful the support has been?

Yesterday one of thumbstick's microswitches stopped responding on my brand new (about a month old) Tartarus v2. I hope the next iteration will switch back to the switches used in the old Belkin/Razer Nostromo since they - even after years of use - still work.

Looking forward to dealing with Razer Support ...
