I use subtitles whenever possible, whether for video games or TV, but I sometimes have difficulty making out words, like I'll hear it but my mind sometimes forgets what words sound like. The only difference is you can't normally rewind video games. lol

For some reason, my mind always goes to the "what if this was real life?" because it ends up being SO much funnier!
For a really good one, go to Markiplier's Job Simulator VR videos and as you watch, just imagine if it was real life :wink_: You might just die laughing :D

Subtitles every single time, I hate when it's not an option. It's much faster than waiting for people to speak, some dialogue can be really slow; it's just much more useful.

I like having subtitles on, but as others have said it depends on the game. I also hate when developers make a games subtitles that completely get in the way. They need to be readable but not obstructive.

Ah, I forgot about how sometimes dialogue is so slow. Definitely good to give a quick read and skip away! while they stare a t you with a tear in their eye saying "You didn't let me finish... No one ever lets me finish speaking...":frown_:

This has a good and bad side in my opinion. Sure if you're playing dialogue heavy rpg such as Dragon Age or Elder Scrolls, it's much easier to just speed read it and skip. But if it's a more story driven game wherein dramatic pauses create anticipation and increase suspense, this can dampen that shock factor, and that, I dislike.

Hmm, yes that's true too. With story driven games, I try not to skip any dialogue and just let it play out. I usually only skip if I'm replaying a game or if there is a HUGE amount of dialogue like Skyrim or Fallout. Some NPCs have 10 or more pages of dialogue.

I need subtitle most of the time so I know what they are going to say in advanced so i can focus on the cinematic half the time

If the game got a translation in my language I play it without subtitles, otherwise I need them to really understand every word :/

And yeah, this ruined sometimes a situation ingame xD

I hate missing what people say or having a character being out of earshot for me to hear :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: so Yes Subs for me!

With subtitles is better. Sometimes I can't get what the NPC said in game

I always play with, not because I can't understand the language, but just because of accents, background noises, pronunciation of names, etc.

if i don't have headphones on i usually leave the subs, but if i do have heaphones and i can hear what is being said clearly i turn everything that can ruin immersion (minimal UI, no subs..etc)

Usually with subs, a lot of games are coming to use large amounts of dynamic range on sound, which is great cause it's awesome at inducing atmosphere, but sucks because sometimes the volume will be wrong and you'll miss it.

I have them on, but I do agree that they can distract from what's going on! I'm too busy reading and not paying attention to what's going on graphically. I do this with movies too and have to constantly rewind to see what I missed while I was reading.
